Hello all,,just registered here, and i figured id post here instead of where i usually poke around.
Ive been shooting a lipsey ruger gp100,this summer,and its intresting. Today i shot some 311316gc,,that mike .311,,,this gun has .3135 throats,and .312 bore,,up to 1300 fps w/2400,,,
And,,,they shot super!nothing over 1.5 inch,,and the bore is very clean.,,most importantly, the chrono numbers are alot lower then my rcbs darling, who drops at .316,,so i can size to .314....
Anyways,i expected disaster,,and ended with almost perfection..i love testing loads, for this reason.
Thought you may find it interesting....

Hello Mainiac and WELCOME!!

Im a new comer to the 327 having nought my first last year then a Brace of birds heads for my pop and I last spring. We are really enjoying the lil pistols!!!

I load most 32 Longs for him around the house and a #12 shot and 32 ball load in 327 Cases he really likes.

I bought the S7 specific 135g WFN and worked up a load with Blue Dot to 1200 fps. Its a stomper!!
Before that my heavy was a Lyman 311440 also under Blue Dot @ 1050fps no pressure signs that also shot great!!

Both mine are S7 Rugers. I had a sp101 in 32 H&R when they came out but it was way heavy and I sold it. I had two Single Six 32 H&R guns too. But always wanted lil
More power. This 327 brings that in spades!!

I have a uTube channel and a number of 327 Ruger videos

This 130 keith gives me alotof oval holes,,dont think the gp is twisted fast enough,,although it shoots the sledgehammer quite well, and that is over 140 gr,plus longer then this swc.

Could be speed... How fast they going?? Gotta be same twist as mine & I havent seen a lik of instability...

800-1100,,,speed dont seem to matter.with the rcbs98swc,,1 inch groups are never a surprise, that lil boolit is so accurate.

So 32H&R speeds. Odd should not be having Instability. I dont know the twist off top of my head but being both are Rugers and same caliber..I would find it odd they are different.
Taht little 98 SWC is a dandy I was gifted that mold and much appreciate its abilities!

Welcome. The 311316 is a favorite of mine in the 32 Mag and 32-20...actually it works in a lot of other stuff too, like the 308. I think at .314 you may find it works just as good or better.

Wish it cast that large,,my 311316 only drops .311,,,
In my 32 hr ruger,,the rcbs98 swc,,will outshoot the 311316.

I'm lucky I guess. My 316 drops just shy on .314 in my alloy. I have a 6 banger GB clone that was cut for .314. Gotta try that one yet.

My example of Lyman #311316 can't manage past .313", and even that takes some alchemy. It does fine in my Marlin 94CCL 32/20 at that size, and at .309" cast a bit softer and sized down for the 30 Carbine BH. If you want to use a bullet for all possible 32/20 revolvers, it needs to fall from the cavities at .315" or a few tenths wider. Only one of my 32/20 revolvers will do decent work with .313" bullets like the Marlin rifle does--the Colt Army Special. 101 years old, and counting. .314" is REQUIRED in the others, and in my 32 S&W Long and 32 H&R Mag wheelguns. I have long held that 85-100 grain bullet weights did better work in the 32 SWL and 32 H&R Mag, while longer/heavier numbers have run better in the 32/20s. That might be more a matter of diameter than of length/weight, but I haven't run that question down and dragged it out of the woods (yet).

In most 32/20 revolver loads, a gas check is superfluous. For rifle loads past 1300 FPS, a gas check might be a good idea. This will conclude my daily heresy update.

Was just doing a little more testing,,3.0 hp38,rcbs 98swc,,,680 f.p.s.,,,and 2 groups under an inch,,and shoot to same place as the hot 2400 load!!

Al, my 32-20 Army Special is pretty good with the 311316. Sighting equipment is the problem there. I just lack the intestinal fortitude to mill and install the J frame Smith adjustable rear sight it needs, or to be more accurate, I need! I believe you're dead on with the .315 as cast diameter being about perfect. You can always size down, but swaging them up is an iffy proposition.

I am blessed to posses a Smith K32 that shoots way better than I'm capable of making use of with the GB Lee Soup Can. IIRC they drop around .311 which should be marginal but out of 32 S+W Long brass they will just chew the center out of a bullseye...if I'm having a really good day. I don't recall the powder charge but it wasn't anything remotely exotic. In fact I believe it was something Ken Waters suggested in a "Pet Loads" article. I find pretty much everything Mr Waters says to be extremely worthwhile and on target.

Got to shoot some of these 130 keiths in my single six 32 hr,,,and they dont shoot worth shit in this gun either.now i wonder if the alloy is just to hard.i either need to cast some softer and trial,or just have a shiny new dust collector,,,hmm
