Powder hasn't seemed to be a big problem, even through the worst of this, I've been able to find powders for most applications around. Now if I needed something specific, that's a different story. I saw a few bottles of Varget in a shop in Salina about a month ago for about what I'd normally expect to pay retail for a pound of powder.

I could buy a lot of factory rifle ammo for $650.

Wish we could get Varget around here its been a spell since I have seen any. Was about two years ago I got a 4# along with
a single pound. I only have most of that single #remaining.

Think I've got like five pounds of it. I really don't use it much. For .223 and .308 I find myself using more H4895 and IMR4064

varget is a so-so powder. its good for everything, but varget is just not quite accurate enuff. i loaded up some 405gr fn pb and varget(last 1/2lb or so) in 45-70 and i gave them to my son.

i tried many cartridges, but varget is not for me.

never tried Varget, never tried 4350 either, and the only 'new' powder i've given a real run is cfe-223.
heck,, i just discovered bulls-eye is a good powder for lots of stuff besides super light 38 special target loads [which i ain't tried yet either]

Varget was like a light switch to accurate/hi velocity. Really magic!
That was 65g Sierra in 223. Then later in 308 it was the same. The rifle shot well with a number of powder/bullet combos. BUt with very first ladder I was hooked!!!

Yea I have many choices and have used many. This isnt unique. But I have found it so why look more? ( unless no more varget is available.)

I have all kinds of different powders… When my fil passed away I got all the stuff he had which was quite different than what I used. And then I traded an 8lb jug of promo for 5 lbs of rifle powder (he’s a buddy at work) and they were all different but 8208 which I use in… something… And then this week I went and bought two more pistol powders, autocomp and sport pistol for rifle loads, Autocomp was recommended as a good replacement for unique and the sport pistol is the same burn speed as bullseye but very very bulky so I think it might work well in 222 with cast bullets.

Yes Josh! I have made a ton for my type 99 out of .30-06.

Although I only use military so if someone in my family picks up a 7.7, they don't go shove it in the '03 Springfield because of the headstamp.
