Ben's Liquid Lube

Kevin,

Yes that's a good question , you can take conventional lube groove bullets , roll them in BLL and shoot them.

IT WILL WORK !!

Peter (303Guy from Castboolits) has done extensive work with smooth-sided rifle bullets lubricated with a dried coating of paraffin-based liquid lubricant. As I recall, his methods were surprisingly successful considering the dark, pitted bores of the rifles he used. I would expect BLL to function very well with a "slick" bullet, assuming the particulars of size and powder/alloy compatibility are squared away.

Seems that the liquid One Step floor wax that we need to make Ben's Liquid Lube is being discontinued.
Dang it! I somehow missed this but it figures. In fact my use of it might have cursed it. Anyway, I took care of it today. I bought a supply that should carry me through my shooting career. Fact is, they probably will be able to polish my pine box with it!

Look for a liquid wax called "Wood Preen." I tried it in ~ the same proportion as Ben recommended for liquid alox and was happy with the result.

I have plenty of Johnson's One Step rat holed back.
I probably won't live long enough to have to worry about finding a substitute .

Picked up 2 cans at Lowes the other day. Have 4 2/3 cans. Will probably more than hold me for more years than I will need it.

The other day, I sent a request to reconsider making more Johnsons One Step. Today, in the mail, received a coupon for a FREE can of One Step or of JPW.

I was looking for a venue to let Ben know that I had the chance to turn someone's world around a while back.
This guy bought or traded for a bunch of pistol bullets, the only problem he had was that most of the lube had flaked off,
he was a little irritated because he thought he had been taken and was asking if there was a solution to his problem or if he should just re-melt them.
Most everyone chimed in with pan lubing, EXCEPT ME, I suggest what else, BLL.
I told him to Google it, he did and is now one happy camper with a whole bunch of great bullets.

Another happy user Ben!

Ben,

I haven't gone back and read all of these posts, but will Xlox work properly as a substitute for
the Lee Liq Alox? It would seem to be fine, but the issue of concern is the viscosity. Not sure
if the Xlox is the same viscosity as the LLA, and whether the mix ratio may need to be adjusted
for this reason.

Thanks in advance.

Well------I am truly convinced. Regardless of what I lube it is overcoated with BLL. As far as I am concerned it is about then next best thing to sliced white bread and dry toilet paper!

Paul,

Works great doesn't it ?

The combo of Ben's Red and the BLL overcoat
worked well for me yesterday.

My friend Nick shot about 50 rounds through his two Swede
rifles yesterday. At the end of the day, they were clean as a whistle.

Shooting groups like this, I can't afford to criticize the combo in anyway.

Great shooting! Someone from handloads.com linked me to this thread and glad he did. I had the alox but sounded like the Johnson's was a thing of the past but lucked out and found can. My gripe was sticky seating dies and the just smell. Well i mixed it up and it coats better with hardly any smell. The coating it tougher but really thin. I shoot an old S&W converted .455 to .45 colt so i keep the loads light so I'm sure it won't lead the barrel. I cast a LEE 230 grain TL bullet and the LEE .45 .456 dia. black powder bullet and used straight ALOX till now. Thank you!

Ben,
I learned something about BLL today. I had cleaned my bore to the metal about a week or so ago on my 35 whelen.
I had left my usual sight in about 2 1/2" left and about an inch low the last range trip while i was fooling with other loads and a new bullet.

I figured with a dry lube like BLL i would have to fire a few foul shots before sighting in since i had left no "seasoning" in the bore.

My first 2 shots were right where i left it before deep cleaning the bore. I adjusted the scope up and over to the right and shot the 2 touching and a little right of center @ 100 yds.

I did coat the bore with atf oil after cleaning it the other day. At the range i ran 1 dry patch straight through the bore and the results are just as you see here.
The load was 54 gr. of imr4350 behind a noe 360230 gr. fp for 2200 fps.

I had 12 rounds of this load, but instead of shooting them up for no reason, i kept the remaining 8 in case i get to go hog hunting this spring.
I gave the scope a couple of left clicks and started shooting some pb bullets and light loads of red dot.

I was amazed that the BLL lube didn't seem to care that the bbl. had been deep cleaned at all.
I LOVE this lube!!
