Ben's Liquid Lube

I just realized i should have added in my above post #258, the bullets were lubed with 3 coats of BLL only as a
"stand alone" lube on the "sight in" target.

Yep, ready for a spring hog and have room left in the freezer for one....here piggy piggy piggy.

Ben,
I figured I'd put this up here first as it's your Baby.
I was shooting my 40-65 today at 300 yards doing load development, using a Brooks turkey Killer bullet cast with 30-1 and Lyman #2.
All bullets were coated with BLL then lubed with a Matthews lube.
I was using GOEX 1 1/2f and 3f against Swiss 1 1/2f and 3f.
I put 80 rounds downrange over my chrony and on paper, taking notes ( for a change )

But, I loaded 15 rounds with 74 grains of Swiss 3f which is a full case.
I sparked those with Federal Magnum Match primers.
A .060 poly wad was seated on top of the powder before compression.
The bullets were cast of #2 alloy and only lubed with BLL.
I saved those for last as it fly's in the face of conventional wisdom to not use a lube "to keep the fouling soft". I wipe between shots.
Those bullets didn't lead a bit. Fouling was a little harder but wiped out ok.
I think I'll work with this some more.
Thank You.
Craig

Craig,

That's a great report.
You're delving into some territory right now that is clearly uncharted.

Keep us up to date with your progress.
So far, it looks real good ! !

Last week, I scored two cans of Johnsons One Step at an Ace Hardware about 25 miles away. Scored two more cans at a small hardware store in the next town, 10 miles north of me.

Today, I scored five more cans at the Lowes across town. Being discontinued, they have them in the clearance isle for just $3.47 per can. Sure thankful of the guys that suggested checking the Lowes clearance aisle! Should have remembered to bring my coupon for a free can!

I know I probably had enough One Step to last me before buying these but, the shortage plays to my hoarding instinct. I now have to resist going to the other 4 Lowes within about 30 miles of me!

Got a little grandson that seems to like to play with my reloading press handle. Had him help to resize some 30-30's last week. So, might need the BLL to last for awhile. Gonna check another Lowes tomorrow to use my coupon.

Remember what Ben said, "they will probably discontinue Alox":(:(:(

Oops, forgot the coupon. Did I mention that the "One Step" is half price now that it's been discontinued. Guess I was wrong in my assumption above about it being in the clearance aisle. At the other store, I had to search and found it where it always was, next to the JPW. They had 12 cans left but, I had to leave one on the shelf. Couldn't reach it, even using a broom! Was running late for a birthday party so, couldn't wait for anyone to help. Next...the alox! Only have four, 4 oz bottles of that (so far).

Getting kind of nutty over this BLL, huh? I really, really like it!

Nope...not nutty at all...just very very smart. I called around weeks ago to every hardware store i could think of within 40 miles of me. I came up with 2 cans at an Ace hardware and had them hold them till i could get there about 30 miles away.

I need to take a weekend like you and drive around further out to see what i can find. Like you i really like BLL and use it for hangun and rifle. I'd like to be able to pass on several cans to a future generation of cast shooters one day.

Heck i've even thought of stopping at yard sales and asking "hey lady, got any cans of JLW in the house you would sell"? You never know lol.

Is it just me, or is it more logical to research an available suitable substitute for this discontinued product? The descriptions of the mass buying and rushing the hardware stores in search of a dwindling supply of this product reminds me of the gas shortages in the 70's. But at least gasoline is still in production last I heard. ;):D

So what are the new members gonna do when ya'll buy up all the liquid wax? They're gonna be all bummed out and become antisocial or something!

Okay, so between Brad and Ben, that's 9 cans for $1,255.00...oops forgot Brad wants shipping added on his 4 cans. Afraid that puts it a bit over budget for me.

Hope my little 6 cans will hold me over.....i "ain't" selling them.
