Bergara rifles....

I need to learn to pay more attention.
But come on. For that kind of $$$ don't you think you could get some resettable to zero Turrets?

now who would do that?

there should be a way to remove the cap and put it where you want it.
they got it on there somehow.
I had [maybe still have] one you lifted the cap up and turned it to line up the zero with the white line, then pushed it back down into place.

But there isn't even any hash marks or anything to line the dials up with....
It may be going back.

I'm not a click for distance guy either.
if the holes need to go to the right I just move them.
once things are set I make a mark and a dot I can see.
then I shoot the next target and note my drop on the top of the wheel with a pair of paint dots and so forth.

Does the dial lift up to declutch from the adjuster, I have seen that before.

I don't dial for range on any but a few rifles.

Bill. No it does not. I returned it and ordered the next model up from Leupold. It has the "CDS"
Custom dial system. We will see how this one works. My local Cabelas didn't have jack in stock. Ordered this from Midwsy USA.

I think once Walter gets his put together and shoots some groups with it he will like his too.
my biggest complaint is with the 200$ scope I put on mine.
I really can't complain about it either since it stays where I set the adjustments, I can see through it, and it has allowed me the confidence to make some pretty impressive [to me] shots in the field and on the bench.

I really did absolutely zero load development [picked one that used the I-4064 powder I had sitting there, and that gave me about 2800 fps with a 150gr sierra]
no real load tricks other than the fancy trim the Federal range brass to the same length and prep it trick.
I might get real fancy and neck size the cases the next go round and see what happens.
I have some other bullets loaded with RL-22 [Accubonds maybe?] to try out eventually.

Sounds good, but where's the "fun" in a rifle that shoots your first load try really well? :p:confused:

Of course, some of that is knowing how to put together a load that has a high probability of
working...like I4064 and 150 Sierra...Fed brass. But the rifle has to be right, too, and the
assembly of that ammo has to be right, too. Screw the bullets into the cases crooked and
it won't be as happy.

Seems that more and more rifle makers are starting to break the code and make guns that
can shoot, out of the box. How cool is THAT!?

My .308 target/match load is 44.5 gr 4064, 174 SMK, Fed brass, F210 or WLR primer - match Fed if I can
find them. Typically shoots to one or two inches at 300 yds if the loose nut behind the trigger
can get it together. Rem 700 HB, Leu 3.5-10. I pillar bedded it, and that is about it.

My young USMC friend shot an amazing group with it before he headed off to boot camp.
He had it going that day. Prone, bipod, he put three into 0.68 at 300 yds. Best the gun
has ever done, didn't hurt that he had 19 yr old eyes at the time, and had been shooting
rifles since he was 5.

Hope the Bergara is like that. None of the rest of my rifles are.

As far as jacketed stuff goes I'm trying to decide what to get. I was looking at some 165gr Nosler Accubonds.
Were those 150 sierra bullets game kings Lamar?
I have 100 or so Speer 150 SP lying around. Also some Hornady 180gr SST and a few Nosler 165 BT
I want to get a "go to " jacketed load worked up to send the info off to Leupold for the custom turret, then play with cast.

well...yeah,,,,, kind of.
I use sierra jackets, and they are within .001 on the ogive.
I manipulate the core to be quite a bit harder than sierra uses though.

I'm a solid Hornady Interlock guy when it comes to hunting bullets, but I don't think your gonna beat the sierra game king in the 30 cal rifles for accuracy, they also seem to be pretty solid for deer too.
in years past they were more focused on accuracy but their hunting performance has come along real well in the last few years.
IMO they changed the jacket thickness some and hardened the core a touch, not enough to make a big marketing thing out of it, but just enough to make the bullet a more solid field performer.

if ELK were on the menu I would look at a 165 as an all around weight.

that 2130 bullet is the one I copy, and the OAL works out to 3.202 to the lead tip they have.
mine don't have the point and weigh 2 grs more but the ogive measurement is within .001.
win primers, fed cases, and 49.6 grs of I-4064. I should be around 2800 fps with the 24" barrel.
it shoots flat enough that 2" high at 100 is almost dead on at 50 and 200 and about 2-1/2 low at 300.

I have a box or two of 165gr Hornady Interlocks as well.
I'm pretty new to the 30-06
Deer for sure, elk is a possibility. Do you think I'd be better off trying to find a jacketed load in the 150gr weight range as opposed to 165?
For deer of coarse....

I have enough Speer and Sierra 150's to do some testing for sure.
Powders?
I have lots of IMR4064
Some IMR4350 and IMR4831
What are the go to powders?

Several gun writers praise 49.0 grs. of I-4064 with the 150 gr. jacketed bullet in the 30-06.

4064 with a 150, 4350 with a 165, and 4831 from 180 and up.

Kinda hard to screw up too bad with an 06

Sounds like a good place to start.
This scope I'm buying comes with a $75 Midway gift card. I'm trying to decide what bullets to buy.
