California's Central Coast Amid The Insanity
The local hospital reported the county's first death, yesterday, and there are 11 known cases. Those numbers are sure to increase.

It may be cynical politics, but it looks like Illinois got one right. Governor Pritzker has decided that gun stores in IL can remain open during the Kung Flu panic. Everything else except for groceries, pharmacies and other vital services is closed. I guess that means you can buy a gun and ammunition, but you cannot take it to the range. We'll see how long that lasts...

everything normal here.

I will probably go down and load up on some gas though just in case.
worst thing that happens is I don't have to buy any for the boat or lawnmower all summer.

California's gov said only life essential businesses can remain open -- medical facilities, grocery stores, gas stations, etc. Every Sunday morning I have to drive through three local towns. My route doesn't pass by any medical facilities nor grocery stores, the two gas stations were open though not unusually busy, but there was a long, snaky line round the marijuana store.
Yep, dope-selling stores are life essential businesses.

It's been more than a week since I was in a grocery store, but a friend told me last night that his local supermarket is still out of chicken and most red meat, and it's limiting eggs to one dozen per customer and one four-pack of toilet paper per customer.

Stoned people don't tend to be violent, and the habitual ones don't suffer from pot paranoia because they know what kinds to stay away from. I'd count it a blessing right now that most of the neighbors are imbibing the stuff if I lived in a densely populated area.

I've got 14 chord of Oak firewood in 100" lengths sitting next to my woodshed. First thing I thought of when the governor made the announcement was that I was heading to the gas station to fill some gas cans. At least I can get my wood cut, when it quits snowing, while "sheltering in place".

Well, I wasn't careful enough. I didn't catch the virus, but this constant handwashing has chapped and cracked my hands, and now they're bleeding. I didn't use hand lotion enough. We used to beat up guys who wore stuff like that when I was a kid, well not really, but it sounds manly. More manly than dishpan hands anyway. I work with the public and their vehicles so I end up washing up a lot nowdays. I tried counting how many times I wash my hands in a day and lost count after around 12 times at work. Grumble....
:sigh:

It's tough to impossible to be completely sterile in an automotive shop. Too many people communicating directly and handling stuff like keyboards, keys, paperwork, and driving Joe Public's cars.

358156,
Canoe paddles and cold water rough my hands up pretty bad, to the point they crack and bleed at every joint. Best cure I've found was the Triple Antibiotic cream (Wal-Mart Equate brand) and I wear brown cotton gloves to bed at night. Works better than bag balm or corn huskers lotion for me. I think it is mainly petroleum jelly but the antibiotic takes some of the soreness out of the cracks too. Maybe Brad knows what's in it.

Mostly Vaseline. Bag balm is largely the same.
Guys, what you need is something to help moisture in the skin. That is what an emollient does. One of the better ones we are all familiar with is good old anhydrous lanolin.
I would try either straight anhydrous lanolin applied at night with cotton gloves worn over it or a product like Aquaphor Or Eucerin. The cream, in a jar. Not the lotion.
Lotions are largely a watered down version of a cream. Avoid anything with a fragrance, dye, or “herbals”. Those things all tend to irritate the skin and raw skin is prime for irritation.
Use something as often as possible.
My hands are not bleeding but are dry as hell.

Are those brand name labels Brad? I'm always looking for something better. Seems like the Vaseline sticks around longer when I get it wet. :)

Aquaphor and Eucerin are brand names.
Anhydrous lanolin is somewhat harder to find but can be found in many drug stores in the nursing section as a product called Lansinoh. Women use it for chapped nipples.
Mix lanolin with Vaseline maybe 50-50 so it applies a bit easier.

Perfect. I just happen to have a tube of nipple cream I got for sizing lube. I'll give it a whirl. Thanks Brad.
