FWIW the 32 S+W Long will handle the 311316 nicely, especially out of a rifle. There's no magic cut off point at 100 grs or anything.
In my 2 Smith .32 longs bullet weight is crucial to get them to shoot to sights. The 3" will do it with 100-105 grains. The 4" flat latch shoots to sights with 75 grain projectiles that are designed for .32 acp. Dunno why but with their respective favorites both hit just on top of the front sight at 25 yards.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Well, I started off with the 32 S+W and S+W Long in rifles, one mould- 311316 and went with that for decades. Fixed sight guns can have a J frame adjustable sight added rather easily and for not a lot of $$$.

I don't even own a 32 mould under 85 grs that I can recall!!!

It might come to that, but another time. This has been an expensive year.

Is he just a single action gunsmith?
No, he is one of the last old time gunsmiths. He has worked on rifles, shotguns, revolvers and self loading pistols for my family for decades. I believe he started out converting 357s to 44 and 45 caliber. He got mentioned in an article by Skeeter Skelton and has not lacked for work since.

Well the new NOA 315-102 mold drops at .3155 and 105 weight. So I cast up 150 and this mold is awesome.
But, I was incorrect. The S&W 31-1 chamber throats will just will pass a .314 with a little encouragement. I was thinking .312, but .314 it is.
Unfortunately my 327 SP101 just passes a .312 slug. I haven’t slugged the barrels yet.

My S&W 31 will pass .313" bullets with just a little push but .314" requires some force and the bullet gets sized down in the process. So I size to .313" and that works nicely.

For your S&W 31-1 and SP101, .313" might be a good middle ground if you don't want to size for each gun.

My full wadcutters drop from the mold at about 96 grains and end up around 97 grains when lubricated. Your 105 grain SWC would seem to be right on the money for that bullet profile. I think you'll be happy with those.

There the fastest as well.
Well the bullets are 30-1 which I think is about 9 BHN. So it will probably form up accordingly.
Might try softer but I don’t think it’s necessary.
