New Smith & Wesson Lever Action, Model 1854

I like it with wood. Drop the threaded muzzle, the rail, and the large loop, and it'd look pretty good. The thing that intrigues me too is that they might release it in 500 S&W Magnum and 460 S&W Magnum!

It's certainly interesting to see a new lever gun hit the market.

It begs the question, "Why"?

Handgun caliber chambering? OK, that's handy but there are other similar guns on the market in those calibers.
The big lever loop? Handy with gloves on but the trigger guard is still fairly small, so that makes that big loop more of a gimmick
That threaded muzzle? Only reinforces the gimmick theme.
The peep sight/rail combination? OK, that may be useful. I'll put that in the plus category.
That stupid crossbolt safety on a lever action with an exposed hammer? I'm sure the lawyers demanded that safety but what a useless device on a rifle like that.
Then there's the price. Whoa, that's not even in the ballpark for a gun like that. Maybe the stainless model lists for less than the blued/wood gun but still......I don't know what market they are seeking with that price point.

EDIT - I just checked and the stainless model list for about $1300, so that's a lot closer to where the price needs to be.
Still not a fan of the threaded muzzel, big loop, lawyer safety.

.....

Because that's what the cool kids who aren't afraid to spend money have.

Everyone and their brothers have cloned 1911s and ARs because they SELL. I think this says something about the real popularity of levers - that they're NOT dead, like a lot of people claim. Same with revolvers and the Contender/SSK50.

I personally think the prices are ridiculous, but it's another reflection of how much so many people want them. The silly additions, which someone could easily add themselves are features that SELL. I'd prefer to not have to pay for a "rail," sights I don't want, "large-loop" levers and maybe even barrel threading. BUT, since i got a can, my perspective on that ha changed a good deal. I LIKE using the can.

Bit I think the bottom line here is that this is the stuff the most are willing to spend money on - "cool" stuff, and we get stuck with it. The good part is that no one's going to be able to pull the flush handle on levers and (DA) revolvers any time soon. MAYBE the makers will even start to chamber levers in some of the other cartridges we'd like.

I really like that Smith decided to modify the 336 shorter then just stick with the 1984. The round bolt makes a better looking action.

Im not so cynical. I like traditional blue/Walnut. But appreciate Stainless as a working tool firearm.

1200 aint cheap, but its right in the wheel house with other manufacturers.

I wont be buying any but dont hate it.

I woulda thought the New Henry woulda gotten more hate. I mean its not a rimmed case. Not a "lever" caliber. Uses a removable AR Magazine and worst of all don't even have an exposed hammer!!

the henry is one of those ideas that work for the 50 yarders.
it isn't in anything i'd hunt with, and i already got a 223 and a 300 BO.
6.5 grendel or 6-7mm sumthin useful would be fine.

Lost me with the rail, huge front sight ramp, and big loop lever. The cost is a major turnoff as well.

The wood from a Marlin 1894 will fit it according to a report I saw, so the plastic model can be bought and an older stock put on, all the non-desirable features removed, and it'd be pretty nifty I bet.

Don't think it will be legal with libtards in Washington state because of the threaded muzzel!

Wow... A threaded muzzle is an issue. This is sad. When I lived there, in the State's capitol, no less, it was considered a "gun friendly state" by the GIs posted there.

Of all the features I don't like on that gun, that would be the only one I might sort of be able to tolerate.
