One of my favorite is my saeco 351. My 35 T/C s like it. Works good in the marlin too. Don't have alot of time to cast load shoot now, but it would be my first choice for low -mid range vel in the Whelens.

My 357 handi rifle loves that one too.

My brother from CO. was visiting today and we shot a few plain base rounds through my 35 whelen.
12 grains of unique behind a 280 gr. 360009 noe @ 1275 fps. and a set 6 power scope.
His first 3 shots went into 3/4" @ 100 yds and the last went a bit high for just under a 1.5" group.

I think the lack of any recoil and and no more sound report than a 22 mag. along with a pretty good group got him hooked on plain base shooting. He's going to try that load in his H&R whelen when he gets back home.

Hey 35 ....Just had a flashback.
I can remember my friends and I lining up behind the shooter and when the light was just right you could see the bullet go down range !
Those were the days !

I lived on the Texas side of the Red River. On the Oklahoma side there was a sandstone cliff. Essentially vertical for 300 feet. And a mile long. The closest we could get to it was around 300 yards and if we backed up, we could get 500 to 600 yards.

We were shooting into the face of the cliff. Shooting a little East of due north . The sun was directly behind us. When the bullets passed about 100 yards, they lit up like golden tracers. We could follow them all the way to impact. It was a great lesson on trajectory.
