Uberti Stalking Rifle

Just a few thoughts on the various subjects at hand;

1. I have a Browning 1885 Traditional Hunter in 30-30...a great single shot rifle based on the Winchester action.

2. I have a Springfield 840 bolt action in 30-30 also a great rifle. This was the Savage 340's last hurrah. It has a clip in it.

3. I know all the various words and distinctions for those cartridge holding thingies, but old time Texans called them all clips. I follow the traditions of my elders. I just ain't cartridge holding thingie woke.

4. This internet thing has allowed folks to snipe at others from a safe distance turning their worse self loose on the world with no worry about "pistols at dawn". This plays no small part in the lack of civility that grips our country today.

5. That 303 Brit Uberti "stalking rifle" caught my eye as well. It would be a supercool rifle to have. BTW....If you watch allot of Mexican TV, like I do, you will hear the word "supercool" used quite often. The word has jumped the river and gone south.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I know where there is a Super Sporter. IIRC it's in '06. It's the only one I've ever seen. Not a real popular number.

The .303 Brit has accounted for moose shot in N.A. than any other cartridge I suspect. There maybe newer cartridges floating folks boats and other older ones but none do better than the .303 at normal hunting distances for most situations. The cartridge will kill...dead is dead. If I was younger I would be all over the Uberti. They do cost though but they seem to be well made guns. Their revolvers in SAA are excellent.

Take Care

Nice to see you again Bob! Migrated from the other place didja?

Agree on the 303 Brit. Untold numbers of Moose, Elk, Deer and Bear felled with one in Canada. Kinda like the 6.5x55 in Sweden and Norway and 7.62x54 MN in Finland and Roosha! We used have boxes of CIL (Canadian Industries Ltd) of 303 ammo at the shop. Good stuff, all 215 SP IIRC.

I had to look this model up. That is a very nice rifle and I now have a serious case of the wants.

I have a nice Browning 1885 BPCR in 40-65, but that 30-30 would be so much more useful to me. I may have to juggle a few things and keep an eye out for one now. Looking around on the net, they don't pop up often though.

THREAD DRIFT ALERT!!!!

OK - LGS has 40-65 or 45-60 - I CAN'T remember/have to go back and look. New (old)Cimarron/Chapperal (again, not sure) Lever rifle. I need to go back and look. I found both sets of dies available. If a 45, I have molds - have to figure out brass (50/50 on using 45-70 brass). If 40, have to get a mold, but Starline has new brass. I was REALLY trying not to get anything new - but...

Anyone that has experience with either, Positive/negative on either one, pls.
