i really avoided the old 0-6 for a long,,, long time.
i popped off a few rounds of a buddy's deer rifle when i was about 12-13 and that was all the bang-flash-ouch i wanted to deal with,,, actually more than i wanted.
took me quite a while to come around with my thinking on the issue, and i dinked around with a few milsurps and cast bullets after acquiring a Garand and not even thinking about firing off a bunch of FMJ's.
i was far too deep into the 7X57 and it's derivatives to give it much thought.
i'd used the various iterations [mostly the ICL i had built] to literally shoot everything from a Moose on down to ground squirrels.
[probably woulda done a mouse too,,, shrug,, but that was not an option that presented itself]
then when i left my last job i decided i wanted a simple rugged plain jane don't care if it gets scuffed up fairly light but very accurate hunting rig.
[got several that are close in the exactness, but they all seemed to miss in one area or another]
i'd almost talked myself into a 270,,, shudder uhhgg, woulda been super easy, i got brass, bullets, a couple of proven loads and 2 die sets.
then there it was,,, a choice between a 308 and a 30-06 in the exact same brand,, make and model,,, both on sale.
picked them both up and held them and played with them,, 0-6 it was.
only rub in the plan?
i re-worked the old ICL over some this winter lightening it down, making the stock fit better, rubbing new finish all over it and finally put a quality scope on it.
i got cast loads for it, a pair of jacketed loads for it which gives it some variety and flexibility,, just not near as much as the 0-6 has.
it'll still most likely be the one out in the hunting field this fall though.
i don't need any flexibility there,,, all i need is to be within 300yds.
well, that rambled.
