Right again...another friend had an 03, USMC 4 groove barrel ,again Lyman 48 rear, 17 front.
He could not get it to shoot low enough ? with ball ammo,he got it off an old older gent at the club who used it for about 15 yrs.
He knew I needed just the opposite, as much elevation as possible.
I tried to get that thing to shoot constant 3/4" groups @100 yds with CB and could not.
I put it in the safe for a couple of weeks while I thought about it.
Then one day it dawned on me, because I could not seat a 314299 sized .311 out far enough to engrave the lands, the old gent must have
pretty much worn out the throat and worn down the rifling.
S-O-O-O...I sized some bullets .312 and guess what, it now is one of the best shooters I have, no more 3/4"-1 1/4 they are pretty much an inch or under,
what a difference !
I love being able to rely on my guns and loads.
P.S I almost rebarreled that thing.
