For 6 grand a year we can fix that.

Oh don't get me wrong, I thing it's great. If you want to see the photos, then become a member. Those who don't pass the screening don't get to see the details of our photos which suits me just fine. There are a few out there who I'd rather didn't see ANY of my on-line photos.

RJ, they got 'bots for that now, trolling BB's around the clock looking for certain keywords.

Says no bashing , not no truthing .
Probably not . Lotta know it alls these days and several that spoil a fine thread of good info with the famed the OP asked about xxx and only one of 6 posts addresses xxx the other 5 are about a completely different xxx ....... Whatever it 4/5 were good information about a better xxx .
Personally I kind of like the wander because some times and more often than not there's some little detail that unlocks the whole puzzle and makes those 4 very technical 6 yr college degree posts makes sense . There's a couple of special topics we avoid because we all agree that A it's been hashed to death , B we all agree it's a thing , C you can get around it but the means to the end isn't really making it go away it just covers it up and moves it to a different place .

That's why the information is useful even if it's not what you asked for and why a little drift is a good thing and why I'm here not bashing another forum . The written policy is fine . The enforcement is fine . Just got a few kids a little too big for their britches is all .

Some times, pretty often really, thread drift will cover something that's tangentially related to the alleged or suspected issue that the person posing the question never considered. I had quite a few of those light bulb over my head moments over the years. The late Felix Robbins was probably responsible for more of those related to cast than any other person. Those were the good old days over there!

I've been on some pretty "tightly" strung forums where no tangential discussion is tolerated. Reckon the handlers came about it honestly? Tis a shame, most subjects and solutions are way more broad based than can be fully appreciated riding a razor blade thin line of dialog.

I've accessed (but not joined) some really specific technical forums that allowed very little drift. But I understand the reasoning, they weren't fun/hobby type forums, they were more specific problem/specific solution/don't want to hear about your kids and vacation type forums.

I enjoyed most of the time I was active on CB. At a certain point in my life it stopped being enjoyable so I left. The folks at CB can run the forum any way they want, I won't criticize them. I feel I contributed more than I took while there, and Ieft with no drama or final ultimatums. I know there are still a lot of good folks there and I wish them well.

I much prefer the environment here.

Well stated Keith.

"Some" of the problem as I see it... and this sure as heck ain't solely about the Boolit's site.

Is,you got folks looking for "one liners" to solve their issue. Think about that for a moment. To some, that's the A-B solution to all things, life presents them with. To others,it's an affront to their whole view on impotent topics at hand meaning, how dare you ask that... do a search, pay your dues, does the term "self actualization" mean a gauldang thing?

Here's an example, albeit with drift..... I sorta made a "discovery" today, most assuredly shooting oriented. Is it worth a new thread? Or throw it into the mix on Fiver thread about what's going on today?

ITS, you mean, "Can I shoot a gas check bullet design with out the gas check?" It was bad enough at one point that a whole section was created with a great big "sticky" at the top of the page labeled "CAN I SHOOT A GC BOOLIT WITH OUT THE GC?" And yet, every day there would be a new post asking the same question! I just never figured out how come none of those guys ever even tried to research the question!!!!!!

A downside of the Internet is that it spawned a culture of lazies seeking instant gratification.

On the upside, I recently was experiencing a new-to-me rifle problem. It was only after spending considerable time at self-diagnostics and trial-and-error experimenting that I posted a thread, here, asking for some advise. Many members offered their thoughts (based on their experiences, no doubt), and eventuallty a very humbling and face-reddening remedy was found.

I like instant gratification :embarrassed:. I think the internet is most responsible for most of the ADHD and patience related social dysfunctions though. Thread drift around here is pretty cool, my favorite has to be where we went off to the land of motor oils, and learned the facts about synthetic oil, and the different oil producers and their marketing methods. I remember the drift, but not the original thread subject matter.

Bret, one of life's verities, is when given insignificant power, insignificant people will use it in an attempt to make themselves significant. Therefore "intent" plays little or no part in internet board bannings. Quite often, all it takes is insufficient fealty to the powers that be, to trigger a banning. However, in the grand scheme of life, being banned from a rinky-dink internet board, is a matter of no consquence. Better to be your self and be banned. than play trivial games to stay in good graces of some minor power on earth. Like you, I have no bad intent, but just being "uppity" is enough. The foregoing is banworthy in some places on the "interweb". Independent thinkers in any area of life, present a danger to the established order. My Grandfather who raised me once said: "Son, if your don't want to make waves, don't ever say nothing, do nothing or be nothing". I was born a free man and will die a free man, not subject to the control of kings, princes, bishops, potentates, moderators and board owners. See. I told you I was uppity. (-:
Charles--you win the Internet today with this post.

To paraphrase Mark Twain, that sort of power and the wielding of same is the innermost goal of insect authority. I have never been very reverent to satraps and mufties that rule kingdoms in their own minds. Marie tells me that I am a reflexive rule-follower in most respects, and she might be correct. Just because I constantly question something does NOT mean that I oppose it or despise it. A lot of people can't handle being challenged, and many of them are not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Staying a step ahead of that sort is about as taxing as beating me at hopscotch of late. (Fair notice--I ruled those courts in 2nd grade. Nothing lasts forever).

Ahem. So far, I have avoided being banned anywhere on the 'net. This borders upon the miraculous, given my online demeanor at times. The Book Of Faces and The Site Prior don't seem to know what to do with me, but I know what to do about them--stop feeding them. It ain't rocket science.

And you win todays internet post of the day! People really can't seem to grasp that simple sentence at all. I question a wide variety of laws, rules, regulations, social norms, common actions and thoughts, etc. And yet I follow those laws, rules, etc. because they ARE laws, rules etc. Get into social interaction and I get even more cantankerous. I do tend to go more to the conservative side of things rather than the "anything goes" side of course, but I'm not going to upset the apple cart simply because I have questioned something and come to the conclusion that society is nuts! These days it seems that disagreeing with a premise, even when based on thousands of years of tradition and knowledge, make you some sort of monster. Well, I'm sorry but common sense says that a beauty salon should not have to go to court if it doesn't want to make it's employees wax a "womans" scrotum! I know, I'm a hateful bigot. I can live with that. ;) Nevertheless, I'm not going to join in with the crowd calling for stoning that person to death. Live and let live was good advice for hundreds of years. These days the tee shirts that said, "I HATE intolerant people!!!" seem more and more like a personal motto some people live by.

I think you may be onto something there! Geico or Progressive has a new radio spot playing up here with a jingle that goes something like, "It's one of those days. You forgot your phone at home and you actually have to speak to people and make eye contact. You have to live like it's 1995!" Really tickled me.

Are any of you aware that the CB-L is in the process of moving from Yahoo to another location? I hope this improves the ease of access to the archives. And the moderators have loosened up a lot but it still is not very active. Chas was strict, but when you searched a topic, it usually stayed on topic so you could find the information you were looking for. Not saying thread drift is not desireable but it can be a distraction if you do down that other path.

I wasn't even aware it was still in existence! I refuse to use any of the Yahoo based forums/lists anymore. It's just not worth the trouble. Same for Yahoo news or links. I avoid them like the plague.

If I stumble into a Yahoo based link on my work computer my computer freezes up until I can escape its clutches. I have some pretty hefty anti-virus, anti- data mining protection on my home computer and it usually sends up warning flags and requires an override before it'll open anything Yahoo related. I never override anything that my computer hates.

As an aside, my oldest son is a Programmer/Analyst for a telecommunications company and supplies me with the best anti-virus protection out there. I don't even recognize the names of some of the providers. He's told me that I'm one of his beta testers for security products. That, and a little common sense go a long way these days.
