I like instant gratification :embarrassed:. I think the internet is most responsible for most of the ADHD and patience related social dysfunctions though. Thread drift around here is pretty cool, my favorite has to be where we went off to the land of motor oils, and learned the facts about synthetic oil, and the different oil producers and their marketing methods.

I missed that!
What thread was that?

At large, whereabouts unknown.
I seem to recall that it was a lube thread that went astray. Let me see if I can find it again, lessee, we were talking about greases, and I think this was on a spin-off thread...

I think this was it. It started out as a discussion of waxes and turned to oil on page two. For some reason I thought this was one of our "mega" threads, but it wasn't. Maybe it's because I had to read it so many times to assimilate most of the content :embarrassed:: https://artfulbullet.com/index.php?threads/waxes.2498/

It all comes down to maintaining a site that has a controlled membership of folks that can maintain civility, share in the common knowledge, and not try to incite an incident! Brad and the mods here make it a friendly learning experience! It is almost like that old show "Cheers" where we may have some characters from time to time but every one gets along! I think it has to do with the friendship bond we have, with many times, folks we have never met but we can call them "our friends"! And I think it is this that has a tendency to purge folks who do not meet these standards before they get any warnings! This is a great place!

Could have been this one. I think it starts on post #37.

I've only been back on the internet for about 3yrs after an absence of about 10yrs.

Got pushed back into it by My Daughter who bundled our Phone, TV and internet. Then bought a desktop and tablets for the Wife and I. Didn't really want to give up My Land Line. But no Man ever wins an argument with one woman, much less two.

I got blown off a "big" gun forum just after signing up. Posted once, admin didn't like it. Asked what I did wrong ? Banned.
Guess that's what Charles was referring to. You can't question authority, especially when the authority is in a position of power in a very small pond.

Feels at lot Friendlier here anyway.

Of course that's not saying I haven't stepped on my tongue a time or 4 on the CB website. Real good Folks here and, there too.

And I can run off my mouth on occasion or touch pen, as the case maybe.

Im not “banned” over there.

BUT, I did get a “strike” for typing SHTF. Just those letters... Admin argued its a “bad” or Offensive” word. I informed him its a acronym not a word used in place of a longer series of words. He said the strike was for being argumentative. ::)

Life goes on...

I learned a lot from that drift, and I will be ordering grease!

I got a strike because someone cheated me on a pair of grips, I complained and got a demerit and a tongue lashing.
In force for 6 months.

When this board was set up, there was a decision made not to allow religion or politics. That proved to be very wise. Most of the problems "over yonder" come from religious and politicals clashes and at times the bad feelings, pour over into gun related posts.

from what I'm seeing here, things seem a little heavy handed now days.
shtf- common usage wording acronym come on.
a small complaint about how someone handled a sale is not ban worthy or hardly worth a mods time except to say well it's his sale.

I see other forums run that same heavy handed way and it always ends up with a group of crotchety older members complaining about the lack of traffic on the site, and a bunch of new guy's trying to figure out why they got banned.

Huh? confused-small.pngI must have missed something cause I sure haven't seen anything here that could be considered "heavy handed". Hopefully by "here" you meant to say over there.

here in this thread Rick.

here at this site...
most moderation is a hey stupid I fixed your political post for ya knock it off.
or a post in a thread saying hey we are getting close to the edge of this being political/not family friendly etc.
the membership is responsive and moves on.
it isn't a big drawn out discussion where tempers get flared up, just a reminder that we ain't here for that.
