i don't know if we were all that poor, but as the only white kid in the 'neighborhood' AKA apartment complex, i still have a hard time eating a can of soup or a hot dog.I grew up in poverty.

Glad you're felling better Al. I noticed you were a bit absent for a while.Component prices remain ridiculous. I did grab 2K x CCI #500 OEM/unplated primers a couple months ago. The pricing was obscene but nowhere near as ridiculous as some online sellers are asking.
I'm in good shape components-wise for now. I rather doubt that prices will deflate for a while, the buccaneers and profiteers seem to be running the market of late. I can still shoot, and now that my eyesight is straightening out and my leg and prosthetic have ceased their 'argument', I might be able to put some rounds on paper. It has been a while.
Even at current prices, 22 LR, averages $.10 a shot...............whole lot less work, involved. Until primers come down, I won't be buying them. Probably, have a lifetime supply, anyways. Then there's the loaded ammo that's squirreled away..............22 LR, included. Not buying primers at $.10 apiece. Cap lock pistol and flintlock rifle until the surplus comes around again.
There are some openings I simply can't resist...Saw the first Hodgdon powder on shelves today. An 8# of Varget for $340? Ummmm, Hell no?
At todays prices a single jacketed round of 270 win is gonna push a buck.
I hear you. Been through three S&W and many Ruger Special/Magnums. The one I have kept is a 1916 Colt New Service I rebarreled and recylindered into 44 Special. Not only shoots better, but weights less and is a fine single action, since I can't reach the trigger double action. The one load is 6.2 grains of SR7625 and Lyman 429421 sized .431".By the way, I'm down to about 50 rounds of 44 Special that I loaded in the mid-nineties/early '00s. I've been through a number of different 44s and moulds in the interim and most of what I have loaded was tailored to something I no longer have. Solved THAT problem by finally settling on ONE 44 Special with good dimensions and about anything shoots in it.
What a coincidence! I still have some primers marked $11.95, $12.50, and so on. Per thousand...Local ACE hardware store has primers; Fed SP $14.95 Fed SP Mag $12.95 CCI LPP $11.95 and WW LR $11.95.
Cabela's had 9mm white box ammo for $12.00 and 357 HP 158 for $19.95.
