Bottom lube groove filled with BAC
Shot from my Savage 340 with Lyman receiver sights.
Fun plinker load for around camp. Wish the mag held more than three rounds.

What velocity are you estimating?

Is it the picture or are your bullets being sized cockeyed? That top band looks to have more contact on one side on a few of them bullets.

I just rolled a few around and they look equally shinny all the way around. Just the lighting in the pic I guess :)

I'm not sure. I just shot the same load this last weekend with 7gr of Unique. I did not chrony them.
They were pretty mild. 1100-1200fps maybe?.....

Ah ok, I was making an observation not a criticism. After getting more in depth with this design style and designing a few with Ian and Fiver I have noticed the one downside to this design. It quickly shows if a bullet went off center in the size die (uneven sizing on the taper).

It is one of the things I have been watching and it seems this design is more sensitive to as cast diameter vs size diameter. Ideally the size die would only add lube and crimp a check if necessary, this style does show much promise in the accuracy department.

Josh, you are right about sizing issues with designs like this. Get them a bit off center and they size more on one side than the other. It doesn't take much either.
Might be a blessing in a way, I lets us see that sizing a bullet doesn't always make it more concentric.

I will be interested to see how they shoot.

I'm doing more load development Sunday with the 338 Lapua. I'll take the 30-30 out and run these over the Chrony as well.

I am glad I got to play with the design and see how off a die can make our bullets. When I first started casting and shooting it was with designs like the 311041, 311440, and 311331, all of which have square drive bands and negligible leade. This lead me to believe a fat .312 bullet could be sized 312, 311, 310, and 309 with no issues. As soon as I seen what happens to this design when sized I realized that Ian and Fiver have been talking about this exact problem and it clicked. For the life of me I just couldn't understand why they would have one or two diameters of the same design, now I get it.

Please try 7.2 grs. of B'Eye with that bullet in your 30-30.

This is what 7.2 will do with the SAECO # 315 in 30-30 out
of my T/C Super 14 , 5 shots , 100 yards. Bullets sized .310"

Yes Sir, I will do that.
Nice shooting! My TC 30-30 barrel is only a 10"
Any bullet chambered that measures over .308" requires turned necks or they will not fit!
I always heard TC barrels were all very sloppy.....not this one!

WACO,

Mine is the same. TIGHT ! ! I've never seen a " sloppy " T/C Chamber.
I have 9 barrels for my receiver. NONE of my barrels have a sloppy chamber.
My T/C factory .22 K Hornet won't chamber a round with any cast bullet larger than .2240 "
I use a .310 cast bullet in my T/C Super 14, but I turn my necks to .009" thickness. Works for me in my particular chamber.

Not known for sloppy chambers but they are well known for deep throats thus the nick name Linda Lovelace throats. :D

.

Yes, as for the throats, Rick is dead on with his comments.

WACO,

As to my 7.2 gr. B'Eye load that I recommended to you, that target was shot with a g/c SAECO # 315.

How accurate would the bullet have been if it was a plain base, I don't know ?

I've not had enough time to test the same load of 7.2 with some of my plain base bullets. You may be able to help on your end with reports if you choose to shoot the 7.2 load with your PB Hunter cast bullets ? ?

Have been in hopes that Al would do a run of the Hunter bullet. It really looks impressive.

Some designs sure do make you notice how you're sizing off-center, or that your mould isn't casting round bullets. This happens with the other designs, too, it's just that we don't notice it. It's been written about since the first Lyman handbook, that minimal sizing, no more than one or two thousandths, is important to maintaining accuracy. When I have to go more than that I use a push-through die. Sometimes I use a push-through die anyway.
