.32 H&R

Youngest son is somewhat eccentric and has fallen for a Ruger SIngle six my Dad retrofitted with a brass birdshead grip, so I've been messing with it now and then while he's away with the Navy. He shot up a bunch of wadcutter loads for it while he was home after A School, figured I'd start actually trying to develop a good general purpose load.

So, been testing various things at 25 yards off of bags. Thus far, haven't had anything do better than the Hornady HBWC and two grains of 700X. Nice, accurate load, but kind of wanting to do something more powerful. I had some commercial cast RFN bullets I've been shooting up with so-so accuracy. Dad had some cast up of the Lee 90 grain TL design, and also some 313445s which has done best of what I've tried shooting 4 grains of Unique. I'l still not satisfied and think it needs better accuracy for what amounts to a small game trail gun.

I have a bunch of 80 grain or so round nose bullets designed for the .32 ACP, I want to try them, but I think we're gonna want something heavier with a real meplat.

Thoughts on this little cartridge and cast bullets?

Now that you mention it, I may have that RCBS mold. That may be the answer, never had an RCBS mold that didn't cast well and they all tend to be very good designs. Gotta get some time to look around and see if I still have it.

I haven’t used the RCBS 32-98-SWC, but have the Accurate Molds version of it, the 31-100R.

Both the 31-100R and the 31-100F are accurate over Thumbcocker’s recommended load of 4.0 gr Unique, being used in a FA97 and K38 converted to 32 H&R. Chronographed between 1000 and 1100 fps.

Fun cartridge!

The .32 H&R is one of those inherently accurate calibers! My buddy Ed can shoot incredible groups at 25 yards and I'm very impressed with what I have seen! Need to ask him about the load he uses...but I know it will be light! He uses a Ruger SS also!

Dont think the 98 rcbs swc,can be beat,by anything.
The 311316,,might just barely shoot tighter, but it aint worth the hassle with the gc,imo.

I have a minor interest in the .350 Legend even though it's purely a niche cartridge, i hVe a lot of .35 molds, a whole lot of lead and more SR primers thsn anything else. If i could easily develp good loads with Unique, I'd probably get one.

I only bought one, because i have never owned an ar,,and seeing as how i love 35,s i decided to play around.
Its alot of fun! I can imitate my marlin 357 mag rifle,or the marlin 35 rem.
Plain based at 14-1600
Gaschecked 358156 up to 2100
Or rcbs 200 gascheck,2100.
Foolish plastic gun is pretty versatile.

Mainly interested to see if the brass can make passable
351 WSL brass. No interest in ARs at all, it would have to be a bolt gun.
