yesterday, i took my win m94 out to get sighted in for saturday. this is what i got.

nBFtFB6.jpg

i haven't shot for around 1 1/2 months, thats why no. 1 is so off(2 shots for each, 3 shots for no. 5). i settled down and i shot no. 2. a few adjustments(going the wrong way!!!) later, then i shot no. 3. another adjustment, no. 4. another adjustment puts me dead on, no. 5.

the red diamond is around 3". you see 2 shots(which are on) and the one is either i pulled it or something else(me) did. but i won't mind a 1 1/4" group(outside to outside).

yes, i know, "you didn't shoot 10 shots. so you don't know the average group is." all i can say is so what. deer don't seem to mind, or rather they do!!!! soda cans, homemade steel targets, concrete blocks don't seem to mind too. i shot the dicken's out of her. heehee!!!!!

as you may already know, i had a win m94 (1973 version) in 30-30. i killed just about everything that walks, crawls and flies that is in PA. it was a good gun, but the old 30-30 just didn't do it fer me. as i got older, the win m94 goes back in my safe and it didn't reappear for about 25+/- years. now i got a rifle in 30-30 that i don't use.......JES Reboring to the rescue!!!!! he did a GREAT job on my old m94. if you ever have to rebore, see JES!!!!!! my hats off to JES!!!!!!

now i have a 35/30-30(or 35/30) and it shoots GREAT!!!! i use a 200gr fn gc(rcbs .360", lyman #2) with 20gr of 2400/dacron that goes 1726fps. recoil is next to none, i shot about 60-70 rounds in my t shirt and i didn't flinch.(people may know that i use wimp loads, i don't find that recoil bothers me, but why do it?)

i luv this rifle, i should've had the 35/30 years ago!!!!!

you gotta love it when you can twist a knob and move the holes where they need to go then lock things down and they stay there.

That is plenty good for deer.
That is a fine rifle and cartridge combination.

Now go get your deer, you are certainly well armed and ready.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Kinda makes me want to find a ratty post '64 94 and turn it into a beautiful 35/30! Very nice report!

I have a 30-30 366 I bought new in 1974 and shot less than a box of 20 through her and put her up. This post has be thinking I'd like something similar done to mine. Thanks for the post Todd.

I'd consider it sorta.
but I got a 32-30 and a 37-30 sitting right there next to the 30-30.

Got a 7-30?

The 37-30 is a grossly underestimated cartridge for shooting cast.

I have a platform that may yet become a 7-30 rimless , as long as 30 Rem is still available . Of course relieved a little I could have 7-35 Rem .

Had a Win 94AE in .356 Win, bought to hog hunt in the Central Valley. Got skunked the first 2 times I carried it chasing hogs.
Accuracy was not very good, no peep sight was available yet. Two inches at 50yrds, five inches at 100yrds. Used factory ammo only, it was so disappointing that I sold it. Never tried to even load for it. Went back to My Savage 99-358, Got a 200lb'er next time out.

Still think that rifle had a jinx

The expensive cost of a set of 35/30 reloading dies is the only thing that has kept me at a distance to this cartridge ?

Ben

mine costed $115-120 for ch4d dies. it may be expensive, but its a one time cost. i have hornady dies(500 linebaugh and 9.3x57) that costs around $70-80 and redding dies(20 vartarg) that is around $100. i bought 30-30 starline cases, but i have 30-30 winchester, federal and remington cases galore.

its been said, BUT I DO NOT KNOW, that 35 remington dies can slightly do the same thing.

Having four 30-30s and a .35 Remington, when I rebarreled my Savage 1899 I was really looking at the 7-30 Waters hard. Wanted one since I was a kid and Ken Waters' articles were contemporary, and the rotary magazine would permit spitzers. But, in the end, I decided to put it back to original since I've never been able to find anything I didn't like about the 30-30. I have yet to find anything I don't like about the .35 Remington, either.

Todd, if the 1899 hadn't had a pencil barrel, I would have sent it for a re-bore and re-worked the magazine spool for the .35. The chamber was good enough and the headspace issue it had I fixed anyway. Sounds like your re-bore went well and hopefully you'll get a chance to put it to work again one day.

With a little lathe work Lee 30-30 collet neck size dies can be opened up to neck size 38-55, no reason it wouldn't work for a 35 cal. Not sure but 35 Rem. seat and crimp dies would probably work for the rest of the loading operations.
