I'm not sure there's a limit to the fun that can be had with a 45-70. Used to load 10 grns of Unique under an Ideal 457124 and shoot them out of the Trapdoor. Cannon ball trajectory, but pretty predictable out to 200 yds. Only problem is, with 16 to 18 bullets to the pound, it hurts a little if you can't mine the berm.

Thats one advantage to living in snow country. I use a snow pile for a backstop once the driveway has been plowed. In the spring I just go pick up the bullets when it melts in the spring. Most look like I could load them again, unless they hit another bullet.
