A new M92. Who do I blame?

now I'm confused.
the wood is super nice, and light colored like they put on the stainless models.
the box is the older Interarms box too.

if you shoot some heavier bullets/boolits in it and they don't stabilize well then you'll know it's a Taurus Barrel if you can shoot 160-180's in it then it's an older leftover Rossi barrel.

nothing much surprises me anymore, and I actually expect to see dumb stuff from Taurus.
but this rifle IS super nice and confusing too.
the front hand guard is a bit perch bellied for a rossi too.

Fiver.. Have one of the old M92 Interarms in 45 Colt. Nice leveraction ! Would not mind at all finding one in caliber .357 . Interarms imported some well made firearms . Have a Mark X in 06 that is a nice shooting rifle with all sorts of weights.
I recon we just did not know how nice they were until they were gone.

Ok. I researched a bit and if I got this right, Taurus bought the mfg rights to build Rossi, and are using Rossi's tooling. Braztech was formed by Rossi a while back and Interarms no longer is involved. So, as I understand it, Taurus is making both their line of products and those of Rossi.
So, which is better? I'm far from knowledgeable with these two companies and their products. From a former gunsmith's view the weapon I bought is well finished and expertly assembled and tuned. The two stocks match properly and mate up to the reciever/frame. Action is smooth and precise. I used to admire how well the Marlin rifles were built at the old plant. But now they're poorly fitted, rough, and hold no quality from their new maker.

Sounds like you got a good one. That is all that matters.
The old Interarms as I understand were held to a better inspection and would be rejected if they did not meet the Interarm specs.
Have two other Rossi's from other later years. One came to my in verygood shape and function. The other needed a few adjustments. But then my Marlin caliber .41 CCL needed all sorts of help to cycle and chamber any bullet other than a RN.
Just the way the cookie crumbles. No rhyme or reason sometimes.

Mike, you are absolutely right. Thank you.
I should simply be grateful that I have a nice new weapon and just enjoy it. The oddball ammo I ran through it at least gave me some ideal where to start. Those 157gr Badman were something I was checking out to see if I liked the bullet design. Kinda so-so, as I'm more inclined to use SWC stuff in my weapons. Shucks, my favorite 45-70 load now is with an old Ideal single cavity that drops a .457" 454424 that clusters shots always in small respectable groups. So the Ideal 357446 should do the trick in this Rossi/Taurus/whatever. 357mag I think. Or maybe with a 358429 in a 38Spl. Either way I'll work it out.;)

Taurus pretty much absorbed Rossi, and runs Mag-tech too [CBC]
remember they are in Brazil so 99+% of their stuff is exported.

if you look back at just the model 92 from Rossi their history looks similar to Dan Wesson's.

Navy Arms was importing their parts and building guns from them [good ones too as good as the miroku Winchesters]
Inter-Arms imported them at least twice, Century had them for a bit.
when they were Brass plated and had the Puma on the side they were pretty good then too.
but I don't remember the importer at that time.
Dixie gun works had something to do with them for a while.

One week with the new M92 and as Gomer used to say "Shazam!":)Everything I've run through this weapon has done well. 157gr Badman RNFP in mag case, 162gr SWC Ideal 357446 both mag & spl cases, 105gr Badman truncated in 38Spl. . All good. 173 Keith SWC's in 38Spl case great. (Feeding issues in mag case)
Aside from the Keith in mags, everything's running through this weapon like gangbusters! And accurate too. Long, longer, and even light & stubby.

This weapon is far more accurate and functional than that high dollar disaster Browning B92 hunk of junk I had a few years ago. That thing grouped like a shotgun from 50yds and often hit surrounding targets as well as the one being aimed at. So glad that trash bin rifle is gone and I now have a weapon that is truly accurate and reliable! :D
The greatest distance I can get in my woods is 160yds from my front fence to my plate. From the prone with the sight elevated one notch below top, I hit my plate 6 for 6 today.

I sure am glad you folks caused me to get next year's gun early! :D

Greetings That is a good deal ! Cannot think of what critter I would be lobbing .358 bullets at from 160 yards except some "yote" that was call shy. But it good to read that little carbine will do the job. What size gong do you have out there at 160 yds ?

Thanks. The plate I shoot is a 10"x10" dogeared shape RR tie in plate from an old spur line at a coal mine. Has a 2" hole about a quarter of the way down from the top, so I gotta hit dead center as best I can. If not rounds pass through the hole and I don't know I was on target, but a might high. It's a challenge to be sure. Just hung off a rope with bailing wire. We're pretty informal here.

just shootin a hunk of steel at a challenging distance is pretty darn fun.
we have a bunch of hangers at 300 yds at our range and they can be pretty challenging even with scoped high power rifles on many days.
I don't like to click in changes so I end up holding a bit high and a foot to the right many times.
when the front sight covers the target holding just a little high ain't as easy as it sounds so I sometimes do the hold the front sight high thing

Yeppers smacking this plate lets me know I got "minute of chest cavity". Yes, I was/am a combat shooter. For decades it was what I did and what I trained for. Now my opponents and enemies are hogs, snakes, coyote, armadillos that I encounter here in my woods. And the possibility of a marauding burglary or worse (hopefully not as I'm retired) may still wish me or others harm. Thus my plate gives me center mass and rings out when it's hit. Some days it's two ft off the ground and others it's four ft. Practice and train for the mission.

Pretty much my feeling too. Develop a load, sight in for that load, then learn to shoot it well. I shoot less off the bench than many as I don't shoot in the field off a bench!
A steel plate, or other target like that, lets you know when you did things right or wrong.
I spend more time developing me than I do developing loads.

Spent too many days on the range practicing for high power matches with guys always looking for the magic load. Sometimes the ammo is good, the rifle is good, the shooter just sucks. Learn to shoot better and it is amazing how much better the rest seems.

Kinda reminds me of guitar players. So many agonize over their gear. Must have the most expensive, luxury finishing, advanced electronics, and so forth. Then the amplifier, effect pedals and more. Signature models of famous guitarist, vintage gear. The list is nearly endless. But what it all boils down to is the guitar player himself. All the high dollar gear will not make him a good guitarist. That comes from dedicated practice and study, not the latest set of strings or oxygen free cables.

Finally found a load that stinks in this Rossi. 6.5gr of Blue Dot with a Keith SWC in a. 38Spl case. At 50yds off a bench and bags 3 hits out of 24 rounds and one of them a keyhole on top of that! Mild leading and used NRA 50/50 lube. They fed good in the action but boy did they stink down range. ... Makes me wanna get a RNFP mould like that Badman 157gr RNFP. Wonder if Lyman makes one?

they do.
358665.
it's what I shoot in my rossi sized to 358 and placed on top of 7grs of herco [soon to be BE-86] in star-line brass.
not too much, not too little.

Thank you sir! I'll have to get me one when the next retirement check goes in. Reckon it might do as well with 6gr of Unique? No Herco here....
