An Afternoon of BLL

I had some free time this afternoon while my wife took a nap after a long morning of chemo, so I broke out my jar of BLL and some previously lubed and sized boolits... 30-30 170 gn, 30-30 120 gn, and a few 9.3 Mauser. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to stand them up and had to use tweezers for the 120 gn boolits. That was the hardest part! Hope to try them out after a few more coats.

so like a cup full?
T/L seems to just keep going and going and going.
I'm still working on the original beta test batch of 45/45/10 lube I put together before the recipe was released to the world.
it has only had one change made to it in all these years.

I made up a large olive jar full some times earlier this year. Must be a little more than a pint and I’ve coated several hundred boolits since then. Just need to get to the range now.

BTW... I like the way it smells!

On multi groove bullets, PB or GC I give them 2 coats of BLL. On ALL other bullets after sizing and lubing, I give them one coat of Bll. I dry for 2 days on wax paper. I consider BLL to be an encapsulant for other lubes. Wouldn't be without the stuff. I dump all sized, and or sized and lubed bullets in a plastic ice cream container, pour a minimal amount of BLL, and than pour them back and fourth into another ice cream container 25 times. That seems to give me an good coating of all bullets. I am most appreciative of Ben for creating the stuff.

How long should they take to dry? Made a batch with the new formula (Lundmark Paste Wax) They have been on the patio on wax paper for 2 days and are still very tacky. Will it hurt anything to run them in a food dehydrator at about 120 degrees for the non Bens Red ones?

I"m not certain if you read my post " over on another forum " about making BLL ( The alternate formula ).

The Lundmark liquid wax is much thicker than the Johnsons Liquid Wax.
If it isn't thinned when you try to add your liquid alox it will make drying times much longer.

I did read the other thread, I warmed both the Lund mark and the xlox I got from White Label to thin them a bit. They seemed to mix up fine.

He meant thin with mineral spirits. It makes the mix dry a lot faster.

Yes Ian, thanks for helping with that clarification , I didn't make myself clear.

The Lundmark must be thinned quite a bit to make it work.
After the two ( thinned Lundmark and Alox ) are mixed together, if they don't flow like a soft drink from a bottle, the mixture is too thick and will need thinning with mineral spirits even more.

the drying of the mineral spirits will also speed up drying the coating.
45/45 lube is the same way 10% mineral spirits is the minimum that works reliably.
I add a whole bunch more than that, it's cheap and hurts nothing.

Ben, thanks for the help. Thinned it and tried about 40- .41 cal boolits. Dried overnight on the patio, since i forgot to bring them into the reloading room with the fan. They are on their seckknd coat. Think I probably had too much lube on the earlier attempts. Gog a dropper and now 6 to 8 drops. Made quite a difference!
