We did the range today, and I took (among others) my wives 2" bbl
German made revolver (Nightstand gun). I had never tried it beyond
7 yds at the indoor range, and the wife at 5 yds (she does well with it
at 5). Anyhow we were shooting at cans and bowling pin at about 25
yd, and I decided to try a cylinder full with the stubby. I did fairly good
with it (better at that range than I expected, loaded a cylinder full and
handed it to Brad. Took him a couple of shots to figure aiming point,
and then he surrounded and hit the bowling pin at least once. I was
impressed, and I am not easily impressed by much of anything. He is
a good handgunner.

I'm not really that good, least not in my opinion?
I was shocked at how well that little revolver shot.

Thirty years ago when I could see better, I had a Colt Detective Special that would hit quart paper oil cans at 50 yards forever. One of the guns I'm sorry I ever sold.

I parted with my one trial snubby because I wasn't going to carry it, and really only thing I would have ever used it for. But it was very surprisingly accurate for me with the right loads. Mine was a Gen1 Charter 38 SPC.

PS: I DID have to put a set of Altamont oversized grips on it so it didn't feel like someone was hitting my second thumb joint with an 8 oz ball peen hammer at every trigger pull! I highly recommend them if you plan to shoot one much!

You have that right! My DS had Herrett's "gunfighter" grips and you could shoot a box of Super-Vel's and be pretty comfortable.

Short barreled revolvers are pretty much all I shoot, anymore. Own five in various makes and calibers, ranging from 38 Special to 44 Special.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Back when I could actually see my Smith 38 Bodyguard in 38 Spec was surprisingly accurate if I did my part. These days I sort of hold center mass and hope for the best...

The 2.5 inch S&W Model 19 is one of those snubbies that seems to put the lie to snubbies only being useful at short range.

German made, imported by EAA, marked hWm which I presume is the
Mfg. Load is 125 Lee RF/.358/CCI Pr./4gr. Unique. That load preforms
well in all my 38s/357's, including the 2".

A cop I knew once used his 2 1/2" M19 on silhouette rams offhand at 200 yards. With six shots he knocked down three and dinged one. Of course, he WAS the rangemaster for his department, and was able to get lots & lots of trigger time...on company time! He was also an experienced silhouette competitor.

Back when I could see and my hand-shake didn't register a 6.4 on the Richter Scale, I could be pretty effective with a Colt DS. My boys have taken over that job now.

No shakes, but vision will not support what it used to. Snubs can work well, but
are particularly ammo sensitive as to elevation, IME.

My current snubnose options start with 6" barrels:embarrassed:

Do still load for a couple 2"ers for Mom.

I've got a laser on my wife's 2" house gun.
Simple for her to use and if she's using it, it's probably at night and she won't be able to see the sites anyway.
The laser makes a big difference on targets when working up loads at 25 yards.
I realize the gun will never get used at that range, but that's the range I work up loads at.

I made $10 week before last, 3" GP100 38+P gun. Guys were making wise cracks about my wheel guns. Hit a steel pig at 100 meters, second shot and they allowed me all six, lol.
Tried to double or nothing on 200 meter Rams. They would have nothing to do with it, four shots left, the third I was inches from his nose, held right and hit between front and back feet.

I'm sold on CT lasers...........have on most of my CC guns. Better investment than aftermarket night sights, IMO.
