much of it has been shot until the headstamps are nearly obliterated because against my every intent I keep picking it back up and throwing it in the can. When the live round count gets low I restuff them again with odds and ends....

Like Ian, I have those cartridges that I tell myself I'll leave on the ground and .....like Ian, I keep picking them back up. :)

Sounds like you two Texans need to visit me in on a sunny January day in Minnesota, we can go to my Club's Snow filled range for some 45 plinking fun...and then we'll see who is digging brass out of a snow drift and who isn't, LOL

Would it be cheating if I laid down a tarp in the fall so that when the snow melted in the spring the casings would be on top of the tarp? ;)

I'm not going to be digging through snow in Minnesota to recover casings but I might go back in the spring.......

Actually you wouldn't need a tarp, if you time your Spring visit before the grass perks up after a Spring rain. It's usually a narrow window between the Mud of the thaw and the ground firming up, where the Matted grass/weeds hasn't perked up and the exposed brass is easily seen and picked up. Sadly, not a lot of shooters use the range in the winter, I always try to time that visit to gleen the range of brass, BUT...it's not like I find grocery bags full of brass, unless I shot grocery bags full of brass, LOL, I usually stick to Revolvers in winter time.
