Handloader Magazine online version/Wolfe Publishing

No to get political, but I've failed to ever understand how gun rights are right or left wing. It mystifies me how anyone can see things that way. So, I just let sleeping dogs lie.

They AREN'T right or left. It's simply a matter of CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS!!

Well, after several days of trying (Wolfe's has regular hours, closed on weekend, President's day, etc - I can't fault them for that) I got to talk to someone. It is a fact, the magazine can no longer be downloaded (just as the early posters in this thread mentioned). I cancelled my subscription.

I actually bought my iPad in a plan to go all digital on magazines as they were getting to be a storage problem. Being able to download the magazines and carry them with me was a big plus. Not being able to download the magazines is a deal breaker. Plus, the new software is a night mare trying to read the articles on line. I am computer literate but this is some of the most cumbersome software, EVER!

Bye, Bye, Handloader, Bye, bye...

This has been a long time coming, I'm kinda surprised they are still in operation and that is quite sad actually. Wasn't that long ago that the day the magazine came in the mail was a happy day indeed. Head straight to Ken Waters article and then read the rest of it. Been more years than I can remember since I picked up any other gun rag, Handloader was the last one. I have been ordering the mags on DVD (one year, 6 issues per DVD) and downloading them onto the computer, this thread reminded me that I haven't yet ordered 2019. Since then I looked at the files all listed in one folder by year and issue number and saw that I haven't yet ordered the DVD for 2018 and I didn't even notice until now. I guess they really have lost the appeal and interest they used to generate. Quite sad, quite a loss for handloader's.

It was the only magazine I would buy off the stand sight unseen....the past couple of years it has gone way downhill. I only purchase it if I see an article that interests me and they are fewer and fewer. Not only the quality of the articles but the quantity....the magazine is a shadow of what it once was.

The reality is advertising dollars are better spent in other mediums.....the magazines cannot support themselves.

Dale - going to cancel mine as well. Not worth the damned aggravation. And from my discussion with the HD guy, they really could care less...

An E magazine you can’t download? So you are paying to see it online but when you stop paying you no longer see the issues that came out when you had the subscription?

Not with my money

Ironically, yesterday, I received an invitation, from Guns and Ammo, for a $15 two-year subscription. The deal included the monthly paper issue and the ability to download a digital version.
If I were to take advantage of the offer -- can't get overly excited about it -- I wouldn't follow through with the additional digital version, because I much prefer paper magazines and books.

And this is why I don't get too excited about the NEW! IMPROVED!!! powders, cartridges, etc. I've got 100 years worth of books and magazines that lay out what I need to do with all the standard bullet weights in pretty much every cartridge up 2000 or so, with all the good old standard powders. If that EMP ever comes, I can access a BOOK and load until I run out of supplies. Having things on line is great, don't get me wrong, I love it. But if you have to pay for access to an e-page and you can't copy it? Screw that noise!

In addition to being cynical, contrary, opinionated and cranky, I'm also working on my Masters in "Curmudgeonly Scoffing"...

Bret - funny, for me, I tend to go backwards to older stuff (all the way back to mid/late 1800's Rem Rolling Blocks!) vs fwd with new fangled - whether it be guns/bullets/powders, or IT stuff. And I am an IT professional - at least they tel me I am!

I believe it comes with age and wisdom. New is not always better, just new. I bought my wife a new Jeep Cherokee, the plain model. What do we need with a 14 inch screen, three cameras and 14 air bags. Neither have had a wreck in 52/55 years? And saved almost $20,000.

Some think new is better. I like turning pages in books and magazines. For me, rifle development ended with the Mauser brothers. Handgun development pinnacles with the N frame. Shotguns probably peaked with W H Baker’s sidekick double although the one marketed by L C Smith is a close second.

Do I have newer? Sure, a Winchester Model 12 and even a Colt’s 1911 but those are the best deceptions.

(Talk about thread drift, I apologize.)

I kind of agree on the era Strawhat. The same generl era that gave you the Mauser 98 and N frame Smith gave us everything from the Winchester and Marlin lever guns, what would become the Ithaca 37, the Winchester 12, the Savage 99/ M23/1920, the 1911/Hi Power, lever, slide and auto 22 rifles, K + J frame Smiths, Colt Official Police and Detective Specials, etc, etc. etc. The 17 Enfield became the Remington 30 (think that right) that became the 700. It was a marvelous era.

Just cancelled my decade old subscription to Wolfe Publishing Magazines. I have always stored these on thumb drive in pdf format and they switched and you now can't save in pdf; bummer. I'll miss Handloader the most and Hunter next but they do sell Handloader at WMart.

I cancelled my HL subscription several years ago. When it became Just Another Fluff Piece Gunrag, I dumped it. Entirely. No mas.

The Fouling Shot, Firing Line (CRPA), and American Rifleman are the only gun publications I receive. I wish NRA would stop sending THEIR fluff piece as well.
