I was going to save some 17 year Balvenie Portwood finish for friends at my Spring Shoot, but the governor has issued a shelter in place order and my bourbon is about gone. That scotch may not survive the pandemic. Put 5 gallons of stout in a carboy and that should be ready in 21 days. Checked a 5 gallon carboy of apple wine I had made several years ago planning on making apple cider vinegar and lo and behold it is pretty darned drinkable. I never found a good "Mother" of vinegar to turn mine wine to vinegar. That is still a skill I need to acquire.
Why would you ever turn drinkable hard cider into vinegar? Here where there are thousands of acres of apple trees, we value hard cider. The poor stuff becomes vinegar at one of the two local plants. You may not get high, but you will not be constipated!

No, no huntin for her unless it's a cookie or her dinner dish. She's afraid of guns. Yep it's true, at first sight of a gun my brave hunting coon dog runs off to her safe place.

Haha. My lil lahsa loves LASERS! Chases them like a cat and thinks every gun has a laser. So when she is in the room and a gun comes out she is at full attention!!

A Rottie we had was afraid of them. He went with us shooting one time. (He was not close) and that was it. Never liked fire crackers or thunder either. So gun fire was a natural dislike for him. 140# of woose when it came to loud noise!

Because I can preserve food with vinegar. We do quite a bit of pickling and we try to learn skills when it is not life or death so we can apply them in tougher times. So far our lives have been just a piece of cake with only a couple of bumps in the road for 45 married years. This current situation validates all preparedness. I've never liked the "prepper" label, but we know how to do things that many have lost the ability to do. For us it was never about stock piling goods, it was about building knowledge and skills.

L Ross, I understand what you are saying. I grew up in a family that lived about the same style as the 1850's. I buy a copy of "Backwoodsman" magazine once in a while, just to remember how I was raise. Ric

There was a report yesterday on the radio and some young lady was in tears because she couldn't get a hair cut!

Funny, I was just thinking it's time to cut mine again. Until about two months ago I hadn't been to a barber in well over a decade. No point in making a habit of it now.

Hair cuts ....... I guess until I was about 40 I'd had maybe 10-15 commercial haircuts then I had about 10-15 over the next 8 years . Now I'm pretty much back with my pre 40 barber/dog groom . Mom has kept me cleaned up pretty well . I guess I'm not much of a head hair grower 8 weeks to quarterly keeps it off my ears , collar and brow ......my brow seems to be further from the hair line these days so off the brow probably shouldn't be counted any more .

Going to a PT appointment this morning to see if I can get some back mobility back . Seems like I'm paying for saving my low back with a wrecked upper back and low neck ...... misplacing 50# probably hurt me any either .

Supposed to be warm and clear today so I should be able to get the last bit of the out go plumbing patched up today . Then I can move on to the joys of cement .......

Haven't been to a barber in 22 years. Just mow it off once a month or so.

It grows to fast. Every 2 weeks was required to maintain a tight flat top. Buzz cut for the win.

Mine grows about 5-6" per year. I wore a nice crew-cut, Ed Harris-style (the actor) but moved from where the okd-time barber shop was and for the life of me couldn't find a decent barber again. It took the only man who ever did it right 45 minutes to get mine done proper where it didn't look like #$%& the next morning. Saw him one Saturday a month fir five years. Anyway, after being Jarheaded, mowhawked, burred, and everything in-between I just let it go and cut a few inches off the end when it started tucking in my waistband along with my shirt tail. Got rid of that and went "regular" a few months ago when I went back to turning wrenches. Cut it myself like I did for many years starting at about age ten and decided to treat myself to a barbershop cut again. Guy didn't touch clippers, did it all with scissors and did fine but he hacked my neck up pretty good with the straight razor. Back to doing it myself like everything else except dentistry, opthomology, and major surgery.

I like almost all whisky, except for that blended crap. Scotch, Bourbon and Rye are all glorious in my eyes. I will confess of late that Rye has become my firewater of choice. Before Prohibition, most whisky in American consumed was Rye. After the repeal of Prohibition, the new production was mainly Bourbon, Rye was very limited. In the past few years Rye has come back with many expression on the shelves of my local booze emporium. Due to some medication I am taking, my drinking is limited to one drink a week and it is Rye these days.

Have a 90 pound North American pit bull terrier whom I named Bob. Biggest moosh you ever saw. Does not like thunder and lightening, gun shots. loves to sleep on the couch and does not exhibit the meaness or hositility that pit bulls are sometimes known for. Right now he's sleeping on my bed as I type this.
As far as adult beverages are concerned Rye whiskeys are my favoirite especially when with ginger ale. Bought a big bottle of Crown Royal reserve and at the rate I'm going it will still be here after I'm gone. Bought two Cohiba cigars and since when did they get so expensive??. Gonna mix a drink and one cigar and watch the world go by real soon. Funny thing. Local Rouses had a bottle of Pappy Van winkle at $700. Went food shopping and was gone. Asked the lady did it sell?. Said yes,guy owns his own business and bought it for one of his employees. All I got from the job when I retired was a brass alarm clock with the wrong retirement date on it. Frank

It's been hot the last four days. Dad stopped by and I broke out a bottle of Hendricks gin that's been in the freezer for a dunno, maybe five years? Switched to Hendricks when Tanqueray quit importing their superb Malacca gin a decade or so ago. Anyway, I like salty dogs but if you can't consume grapefruit juice due to cholesterol medication and like gin...try this: Make a normal gin & tonic on the rocks, use Shwepp's tonic water, and top it off with a couple of Calamata olives and spoon full of the brine. Exlnt. He and I came up with this years ago but sort of forgot about it, great summer drink with a savory yet refreshing flavor.

Ooh, Gin. I had a problem with Gin in High School and threw up most of the night. I haven't been able to even smell Gin since. I even gave up celery for years because it sort of smells like Gin. Once that breakup was over, I rebounded to whiskey and have never strayed since. Right now I have Rye, Bourbon, and Rum (of all things) in the house.

Ian, it must only be in Texas, as Tanqueray Malacca is pretty common here in the PNW. Dirty martini's just have too much salt for me, but just the gin and olives, especially with Jalapeno stuffing, is great.
