What happened to the History Channel ?
When it 1st aired, I really enjoyed the " History related " programming.
Now , I'm either watching someone grinding on a knife blade or
watching someone prowling around in an old barn.

In my opinion, it has really gone downhill.

Yep, I used to watch it a lot, been a few years now since I've tuned in. If I have to waste time with reality TV I may as well get caught up on some sleep, time much better spent.

There are very few shows the wife and I watch anymore. Not a lot of good programs. A show we are really enjoying now is called”Yellowstone”

same thing that happened to M-TV.
advertising dollars.
there is a channel called AHC which is what the history channel used to be, but it's in some stupid package I ain't payin for.

I'm to the point where if I want to watch something I DVR it and push the forward button through the commercials.
the average commercial break now during a movie is 4 minutes [based on 8 plus 30 second button clicks] with some as long as 6 minutes.[usually towards the end, then they lengthen the commercial time to make up for the 12 minutes of commercial free time at the start]
remember when every half hour show was 22 minutes long with 8 minutes worth of advertising?
[4-2 minute breaks] now it's 20 sometimes less.
or when they didn't even stop the show they just worked the commercial into it [ala jack benny] during live TV?

anyway, I love that DVR thing, it saves me at least an hour a day skipping commercials from shows I recorded yesterday or late at night.

”Yellowstone” re-run of "Dallas". History channel is run by left-coasters now. Series on underground of the world is kinda neat but can't stand the red-head that looks and talks like a guy. Did find Murdoch Mystery series on Ion+ period 1895. Getting a little political with the woman vote, prohibition, etc. but usually pretty funny. Better than 'Murder She Wrote' re-runs. been watching a lot of wagon train, gunsmoke lately on MeTv.
Spent some time on some web sites last nite during re-runs of NCIS-La. Studying American Indians. Interesting, when the Spanish came over to gulf, remains of Pueblo/Missisppi culture/Aztek is all they found and they were very primative hunter/farmer cultures. Evidently the 'little ice age' was over and Southwest/Texas/Ok were getting dry. East coast tribes were pushed into the mid-west by Iriqouis (armed by the Dutch/French/English). By the late 1600s most of the mid-west tribes had been chased out to the plains states (Ne territory) due to constant wars over hunting grounds. Appears that plains states originally were just nomad hunting grounds until then, very few pemanent residents. Then US Gov moved most tribes to the Res. around Civil War period. Baja Ca indians were primarily Mexican related tribes. So history repeats, wars are to steal other people's 'stuff'.

The amount of commercial time is one of the prime reasons that I frequently don't even turn the thing on.

The "New Breed" cares little for history. Now, me is the mind of far to many. Roots, good past decisions and leaders are as important as the documents that rule our Republic.

When I was in the hospital I finally turned on the TV at about day four to try and distract myself from they misery. History was running some marathon about dredging the pacific for gold off of Alaska, typical drama format like deadliest catch. Another channel had some guy going around saving "homesteaders" from their own stupidity. Watched half an episode of Diesel Brothers. The only show that was even slightly interesting to me was dinosaur fossil hunters in Wyoming. After 38 minutes of program and 22 minutes of ads I clicked off and went back to reading books.

At home all we watch is disney princess movies.

We did the same with TV. There are so any old programs to be watched the trash can stay unwatched.
Right now I a working my way through the "Combat" series.

I don't do television. Quit it 10 or 12 years ago. My wife watches some.

Last time I watched Netflix was several years ago when Longmire ended. Watched Midsomer Murders, too. (Not even sure we still subscribe Don't care neither.)
Amazon Prime has some good history documentaries.
A couple years ago, I found several seasons of Paladin, someplace on the Internet.

I read.

For all of the above reasons, health, (to much sitting) commercials, $, Political bs, reality t.v. watching two or more programs at the same time, between commercials.

I chucked my tv out the back door and canceled the dish subscription.
That was two or three years ago. I haven't missed it at all.
The best. And I mean best thing. I don't hear her nag, nag, nag every month about $160.00 monthly bill.

I kept my dish on the roof; couple years ago kid came trying to sell a subscription. When I pointed to the dish he said it was not hooked up I said it's wireless. Then told him he should know more about the products he selling. ;)

I don't watch TV anymore either. I objected to being reprogrammed and socially corrected, so I cut it all off.

Recently I watched an excellent program on History channel, It was a discussion with two authors of a book called "Indianapolis The True Story of the Worst Sea Disaster in U.S. Naval History and the Fifty Year Fight to Exonerate an Innocent Man". Before the program had ended I had ordered it on audio book format. To say I could not put it down is an understatement, without doubt the most interesting book I have ever listened to. The amount of detail these two women, Lynn Vincent and Sara Vladic, through interviews with survivors or families of survivors, historical records, naval archives etc. to finally put to print was just amazing. Every aspect of the ship and crew, before, during and after the sinking was explored and thoroughly explained. I can't say enough about it, it's just that good. I recommend it everyone.

Have not had tv for 3 days now due to the storms that went through here. Been running off a generator the whole time. No AC or TV. Been some really long nights. Good thing I have been chopping up trees the whole time in the neighborhood. We are on the end of the transmission lines for power in this section. Everyone around us has had power back since yesterday. I hope tomorrow. Gone through 25 gals of gas between the gen and saw.

I will tell you this little Ryobi 14" saw has been awesome!!!
