I have not had this one too long.

I have some cast loads ready to try in this one on the next trip to the range.

Win. 94, 30-30.

Yep , that's it ! !
I graduated from high school in 1967.
When I saw this one, I thought that it should come home with me ! :):):)

Appears to be a Canadian Centennial, there are two versions, 20"bbl, and I think 24". Mine is a 20" and a real shooter with almost any cast bullet I have fed it. Can be a bit fussy with bullet choices as far as feeding goes, it has no appreciable lead, other than that I have had zero negative issues.
I tend to shoot heavier bullets, from 170-200, but mostly 175's from a Lee 311041 clone at 1700-1900. 28-29grs. IMR 3031. Being a person that finds a good load and stays with it, I have not experimented with "new" loads.
I put a Lyman 66 on it as soon as I was able and can hold minute of rock out to 175yds, pop cans as well at 100 if the light is good.
I hope you enjoy yours every much as I do mine.

MOB,

I'm so glad to read your above comments.
My rifle also has the 20" barrel.
Our chambers must have been cut with the same reamer.
My bullets have to be " deep seated " to chamber smoothly.
Throat is literally non existent on my rifle.

I may have to get a special mould from Accurate for this one.

I salvaged a poorly-stored, gold-plated, octagonal 20" '66 Centennial attic queen that was unfired but had a clay bug nest in the muzzle. Fortunately no rust in the bore. It shot like a laser, amazingly accurate with the Lee 311041 copy and a full dose of Reloder 7. I don't like the '94 Winchester action, but if "accurate rifles are interesting", that one had my full attention.

Ben, you have the Lee 309-170-RF mould, don't you? Or Lyman 311041? The Lyman mould doesn't have much of an intermediate (.305") band at the base of the nose like my Lee copy does, so it should chamber more easily, but the rifle I worked with would etch that intermediate band right in front of the case mouth with the land ends when the lever was snicked closed for a perfect fit. .311" bands, .300" nose, WW+2% tin, any of the world-famous Unique, 2400, or Reloder 7 recipes will get 'er dun.

Well heck Ian, Ben's just all atwitter to buy a new mold and you're shooting his "reasons" in the foot. Man, that's just mean. . . .

Hey, he can still order one to replace his 041 ;), I was just indicating a design that I KNOW works in those particular barrels. That wheel was invented over a hundred years ago, before Marlin chambers made things more challenging.

Something else I liked about those Winchesters was how stiff the big, heavy octagonal barrels are and how they shoot virtually any safe load well. I was pushing the very top end with Reloder 7 and getting just the same stellar groups as I did with Unique.

Staying tuned on this one.

I have the exact same gun! I got it when I was 18 as a present from my now passed Dad.

It will never leave my Possesion but will be shot a lot in his honor!

Beautiful carbine! Sounds like you'll have to buy a mold "just because" for this one.

I don't think it's very hard for any of us to convince ourselves we need a new mold! Surely it's not just me!

That is a very nice looking specimen Ben!!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I have mine.

Mine has a very tight throat but seems to shoot everything I put in it quite well.

So far my favorite load is the Noe clone 311041 sized .3105 alum gas check from Josh lubed with Lars 2500+ rolled in BLL.
17 grns IMR 4198 sparked with a S&B LR primer.

It's a solid 5 shots in a hole I can cover with a quarter @ 50 Yds with a peep sight on it.

It will produce those groups all the time summer, winter, fall it's very consistent.

I will post a photo the next time I take it out.

Have a good night!

I just loaded some SAECO # 315's for the rifle you see above.
These cast loads wanted to mark the front band with rifling a bit until I reached this OAL that you see below. Now they chamber smoothly and are about .005" off the rifling.

It is interesting that is about where SAECO placed the crimp ring. :)
