IMG_5934.jpegIMG_1908.jpegFun thing with BO is I can play 32-20 with the CVA single shot. And use heavy bullets. IMHO the Hamr is a good rnd, I just don't need one. My hog hunting days are about over due to health and age. But I still like to tinker.
Personally I got that covered!!

I had a barrel made from a ol Smle take off barrel stubbed into a H&R shotgun barrel. I have a dandy MP 140g bullet that I really like! It shoots good not great but I really haven't "wrung it out" Trying more different powders. I really like the rifle.

I also made the leap today. Let me back up two or three weeks.

I looked at Wilson Barrels. He offers quite a few variations!! I FINALLY found the one I liked its a slight heavier contour 18" blued. 225$. I hesitated and waited looked for about a week. Then found that post from 300 telling me the custom 300 bo barrel I could buy in my twist and length.
I looked and chewed on that for few days. Well I decided I wanted the HAM'r. And went ta order with Birthday $$. Well the price was gone. The barrel was back to 290! So now I had to regroup as 360 got me the 20" 300 BO in 1:10....
Then Wilson announced a Blk Friday Sale it was 15% for the amount I'd be spendin. That only got me ta about 250 ish. Better, and enough ta swing me back ta HAM'r. I still hesitated.
Well today I was surfin and saw a special sale for the Wilson Tactical Hunter barrel. Its a Stainless Fluted 18" in a slight lighter contour. But it was 227$. That was it! I aint waitin and grabbed it a Mid Length tube. (I think I had one but now, I know I will) A bag of brass and a gas block.

I see a handi-gun, is that not yours?....never mind

So you bought a 15" twist Ham'r? My x40 is 12 twist and BOs are 8 twist. I know a guy with a 10" twist BO from McGowen, and it doesn't shoot cast as well as his 8 twist from Hardened Arms.

I’ve had .300 BO’s and a 7.62x39 that I liked….
The 6.8 SPC is the one I REALLY LIKE.
I bought a Lee mould for it and the very first load gave great results- happy guy here.
I thought of a .350 to play with; but no.
We can hunt deer with a straight wall .25 ACP here!

Good to know! Not sure thats a universal thing as 30-30 is a dandy cast shooter in 1:10. But...

Yes, Handi rifles in poppers post are my guns.

Yes its 1:15 twisted.

Another example of a very specific set of parameters that may not extrapolate to other shooting sports.

I read up Bill Wilsons trials with 1:13 and 1:15 twists with his two cartridges and why and where for's for each.

I suspected the 1:7-8 of the blk being the issue with cast accuracy. This one isnt bought for cast it will for sure be tried. ;) But primarily will eat 130g range jacketed as a hunting rifle.

My Black Outs are going no where so Ill hopefully, be able to enjoy both worlds.

I got notice yesterday the barrel and parts shipped.

Im gonna be trying something here, this winter.
Ive been on strike for 7 weeks, and we just ratified a contract,,so my piggybank is some thin!!!
Either this wilson rig,or a 7.62x39,or a 30br,,,cant make my mind up,but it will be all cast shooter!!

Also,,that blackout would probaly work for me as well,,if i can find it in slow twist.

I took the 350 out the other day. I wanted to try some different bullets in it. I loaded them with h110 and a 90gr SIG HP for the 380. 2920FPS for a 5 shot avg. And it shot right a little over 1". This is better than any of the other jacketed bullets I have tried. There was NO recoil. But a HUGE fireball at each shot.

I only loaded 10 just to try. And they are hitting in the same spot as I had sighted in for. Still trying to decide what I m going to do.

Thats what I was thinking Fiver. The old ladies mother has a mess of coyotes that have been around the farm they have their sheep at. They lost several young ones earlier this year. Her mother said she has been hearing them really close to the house. So I might go a few nights to see what I can see. The guy I shoot with also has two ar15 night hunting rigs set up with FLIR scopes. Or I loaded up a bunch of 3" 12ga with 27 0.240" lead buckshot. I chronoed them at 1300fps. That holds a nice pattern out to 45yds with a light mod extended steel choke.

My McGowan is 1:10 SS fluted (300 BO) and shoots great. 2100 fps 145 gr PB cast does MOA at 100. Wears a AGM Rattler now.
It was a strong consideration. Plus could have confirmed my opinion of twist effects on cast.
But I found this barrel for 227$ in a flash sale and jumped on it.

Its unbelievably smooth inside. As if greased. Its a fine barrel in appearance. (I have little doubt you McGowan would be much different. But a 340$ cost swayed me. )

So, I pulled my 350 legend upper apart to build the 300 hammer. I decided to build a second 350 upper as I had the parts on hand. I wanted to use all the parts that were on the old 350 for the new 300.(otherwise, I just left it as is.) I slept on it last night and decided to prune the barrel back to 18 inches, on the 350. I did that this morning. Then I threw the barrel square and re-crowned it.

I got to the range late this afternoon and I tried two new loads in the 450 bushmaster and the two existing loads that had shot in the 350 legend. The 165 FTX and a 170 fury soft point. I think with 296 powder. Anyhow the FTX load went into about half to 3/4 of an inch at 50 yards and about an inch and a half at 100 yards. And improvement. The fury bullet went into one 45 caliber hole for three shots, four shots, and five shots ! All five bullets into 145 caliber hole! This barrel never shot that good before. So it's the same barrel, with a new upper a new barrel, nut, a new scope and different rings. Same gas block and gas tube and now shorter at 18 inches , although the gassing seems to be off, because empty cases fly directly to the right of the gun. Function was 100% for about 15 or 16 shots. Also something that hasn't happened before I'm using the same magazine and the same lower in the SCR.

As I expected, everything I shot through the 300 hammer shot under an inch most under half an inch at 50 yards and nothing was over inch and a half at 100 the 110 grain Vmax shot one hole at 2600+ feet per second. The slow poke was the 130 grain spear with a middle load of CFE black shot @ 2165.

So I am super pleased with the 350, and the 300 hammer is doing what I expected it to. I only have about 27 rounds through the gun and I expect it to improve.

Tomme, Who/what was that company offering Bolt conversion barrels in 300 Ham'r (I think) you spoke of some months back?

A lil Howa MINI in HAM'r would be awesome!
