Many just dont like cost cause they compair them to the LR they probably own and have owned for ever. They cost twice plus as much.No offense to anyone, but I've never had a 22Mag that I liked.
Maybe it's me?
I had a Savage 24 with the top barrel in 22mag (bottom was 20 ga)
I had one of the AMT automag II
I had the single Six convertible.
seems like there was another one also?
I didn't like any of them.
One big draw for me was where I live. CF cartritage are NOT LEGAL on state lands. So if you hunt state lands your gonna have a Shotgun, a muzzle Loader or a Rim Fire! Id prefer that Hornet loaded up or down too. But its mot always a option.I was never a big fan of the .22 Mag. Never had a good use for one over cheap LR and as has been said, the price compared to LR is crazy. I became a .22 Hornet nut early on so I didn't have a need for .22 MAG after that.
I always jokingly said "if I wanted to shoot a .22 Mag I would just download one of my .22 Hornets."
My first hand gun and 22 Magnum was a Ruger 9 1/2 inch Single Six. I played with the magnum cylinder some but not a whole lot. The 22 L.R. was quite a bit cheaper and just as effective out of the handgun. Like Intel6c the Hornet cartridge made more sense to me in rifles over the 22 Magnum. No centerfire prohibitions in Montana. The 22 Magnum used to come with actual jacketed bullets now I'm not exactly sure what's available. It's the better rimfire coyote round out to 125 yards or so. On squirrel or rabbit, it seems a bit to destructive if dinner was the intention. Oddly enough I still have a pair of CZ 452 rifles in 22 Magnum but it's been a while since they were shot. There's quite a bit more smack to the 22 Magnum with gophers than the 22 long rifle rounds. But less than the 5mm Remington Rimfire.I was never a big fan of the .22 Mag.
