Well. When I see sags or irregularities in my cast. I blast it with BC and pour again 98% of the time I see a perfect bullet emerge.

So for me yea it works. As with all things, your results may vary. ;)

I will always and forever keep a can a few yards away from where ever I cast. (Its quite flammable so not too close)
Its also very dangerous to welders as it gasses off with dangerous fumes. But thats more the liquid a d of coarse higher temperatures.

it's actually intense UV light from a welding arc that creates phosgene gas. Heat creates other bad, but not quite as deadly, gases.

Well, I don’t know why but this mold gave me fits. I kept getting wrinkled bullets. The mold was pre-heated and the alloy was plenty hot And had been fluxed 3 times. I thought it was still not clean. It was washed in dawn, then lacquer thinner, and finally denatured alcohol. I was still getting wrinkles. Then I tried my old trick from 30 years ago, I smoked it..........perfect bullets! I cast several and let the mold cool and re-washed it in Dawn. Heated it back up and perfect bullets! All I can figure is somehow through all the previous washing I missed some contaminate.

It was a lot of trouble but worth it. After the last washing I cast 68 bullets. I sorted 50 that weight 200.7 +/- grains. I did not have to weigh but 54 to get that 50! I then measured with my micrometer and the drive bands measured .313” and the nose .298” just as i ordered.

I am one happy camper plus it is just a “handsome” bullet.

The ones I had from tom had some type of lube on it. But it was years ago that I had him make me one.

Isn't it nice to get exactly what you ask for ?

Ben,
Yes, it is. I’m about to start the plans for a 35 cal that will fit my 358 Win. I have several that I have to seat deep to get them to work. I may have been spoiled with this Accurate mold.

For years I stored my iron/steel molds with vegetable oil as a preservative. It cleaned off easily with dish soap.
I still sprayed them with brake cleaner after preheating.
It's never created a problem for me.
The last Accurate mold I got, the #45-210J. I scrubbed it with dish soap. Sprayed it w/ BC, heat cycled it 3 times, sprayed it w/BC again and started casting. It dropped 5 perfect bullets with the 1st fill. Really freaked me out.

Tom from Accurate will tell you all you have to do when you get a new mold from him is open the box, put on handles and start casting. He has done the prep work and cleaning via ultra sonic clearer for you.

I've never cleaned a mold in the Ultra Sonic.

What would you use ?
Good question. I’m not sure. I have never done it either. Email Tom at Accurate. I’m sure he will tell you. He is VERY good at responding to email.
