Shooting handgun indoor silhouette years back, I won a brick of RWS match .22 LR ammo with
my Ruger. It LOVES that stuff, and it has been doled out parsimoniously over the decades, but I
have shot a number of 5/8" diam 5 shot groups at 25 yds from sitting or bench positions with
my Std 6" with the 1.3X Phantom and that RWS match ammo.
I sure wish I could match that with other guns, my very best with centerfires will usually run about
3/4-1" for 5". Sometimes I bring one of my Ruger std autos (not sure exactly how many have
somehow accumulated in the safe over the last 40+ yrs) with me as a "proof of skill" tool. Some
days ammo testing or gun testing is going SO badly that I start to wonder if somehow I just have
forgotten how to shoot! Whip out the Ruger and std ammo and prove that, no - it isn't me, the
ammo or gun really IS that bad! Neat to have them as a reference standard. They are really
that good.
Again - well shot, not easy and as our eyes fade with age it becomes monstrously harder.
"Sight alignment by braille" yes, sadly it does seem like that at times.
Does anyone else use a Lyman Hawkeye or other pinhole device for iron sight shooting? Helps
me a lot - or at least did before I had my new eyes installed. Haven't had time to check it out,
been on the road all over the western and SE USA for last two months with about 3 days at home.
Great to visit friends and family, but nice to be back home, too.
