LOVE my Win 94 JES-ed into a 38/55. Throat and grooves are .376", I size @ .377" and it is a delight at 1300 FPS with a 250 grain bullet. That was its black-powder persona, and it makes deer tip over today as well as it did in the 1880s. If you exceed 1700 FPS with either RL-7 or IMR-4198 and the 250s like Lyman #375449, the primer pockets on Starline brass get loose. FYI. They push back stridently, too.

I have a Texan as well, toss up. Send it for rebore game to 38-55 or a Interarms Fullstock Mauser 9.3x62. The struggle is real.

Gary, you’d be very welcome to drop by and give my 336 that Jess turned into a 38-55 a try. I’ve got 3 different velocity levels worked up with a 250 gr cast bullet. From 1225 FPS to over 1600. Give them a try and see how your shoulder reacts.

I'd give the 32-40 a look see if I just wanted something different.
or something with some whack on the one end without the thump on mine.

if I wanted something to shoot quite a bit I'd look at the 120gr. type 30 cal bullets.
you can run them up and down the scale and drop the recoil impulse by a good 30-40%.

Thanks again for the suggestions fella's. I've decided on the 38-55, no the 32-40, no, no,no! Actually decided to wait until I get my next "bonus" check from Sam and look into a 1885 Highwall, leave the 336 alone for the time being. I really like the 1885 Uberti I presently have and she really needs a sister.

Gary - thought about an 1873 or 1892 in pistol caliber? Certainly remove any recoil issues. And can say, the Ubertis are VERY nice. I just picked up an 1873 and love it.
