Mould storage

Gary, I'm with Rick, my Rubbermaid containers have index card labels taped to them telling me what is stored inside (they hold up to 8 moulds). It may well be OCD but at least I can find what I'm actually looking for.

All good ideas and give me a direction to go. I made a huge mistake a few years ago and threw all my Lee boxes away!:sigh: Cleaning out and I was like I don’t need all this mess, they all are stacked nicely in that plastic bin. Well hindsight is 20 20. I may build me a rack to put the lees in. Make about 20-30 slot that’s about the size of the box for the 2 cavity. I think I have about 20 of them. And with the new additions coming I’ve got to find a place to organize, and store them. Im still in process on my new loading room and hope to be done in next 3 months.

Lee in a box stays in a box...

I just keep them in plastic tubs, not actually airtight but I keep a dehumidifier in basement so humidity is always around 30%.

Mine are stored in their original boxes, if I have them.
The others with handles are stored on a shelf.
I oil ALL of my iron moulds. Cleaning is easy for me.
When I do cast, I cast a Lot of each mould , so i
I don`t have to clean them that often.

:headscratch:Walter, why so many sets of handles? I might own 8-10 sets. No more than two, from each manufacture. RCBS handles fit the majority of the moulds, I have. Just swap them around. Most I cast with, are two moulds at a time, anyways.

Use to store my moulds in the original boxes. Most were oiled, since I prefer iron. Currently, using Rick's system. I don't own but a fraction of what he has. Humidity isn't an issue, as it was in Michigan. Current humidity is 31%, in my super insulated, geothermal heated and cooled home.

Well, I'll say it since no one else has. Each one of you may have a problem. If asked and truthfully answered, many (most?) would have 30+ molds with some stating "I'm not sure". How many do you really use? Doesn't matter does it! Whether it's a sickness, a hobby, a way of life, etc. etc. etc. and I love it!

I've made a habit of storing mine back in their respective boxes. Originally I wrapped a rag around them but found that even though my shop is dry, South Carolina doesn't care. I still put them back in their boxes, now I just wrap them in VCI paper and put them in plastic bags first. The rust spots disappeared and I look for more space for molds.

I really like the individual sealed plastic boxes. I already do that for colors for PC (about 10 different Rubbermaid boxes).

When I built my new room I happened to have two Craftsmen mid boxes. They were the 26" wide 18" deep boxes that stack. I added one more mid box for a total of three in a stack that take up one third of the bench length under the bench. Under the rest of the top is a 42" mid box used as a drawer for other stuff, top punches, sizers, tool's and other casting related items. I've built wooden dividers in each drawer, which work great as I like handles on each mold. Even the LEE 6 cavity with handles fit in nicely. I think there's 60 or 70 molds in there, in a caliber organized order. Not as anal as some pictured here, but close.

I actually know exactly how many molds I have. I put together a spreadsheet inventory so I didn't buy the same one twice (again!)! And, the estate buy cranked the # up too. Expected to sell most of them til I found out what all they were.

Yep same here. If they think I'm OCD or anal about the storage boxes they would have a nervous breakdown if they ever saw my spread sheet on my molds that not only include what mold but detailed info on each one.

Lots of Lee molds. I think I only have like five sets.

This is good with me but I live where it is dry, except in the winter. Boxes are the same ones NOE uses that my buddy and I split a 250 order and they were less than $.15 delivered. A used USPS flat rate medium holds 25 neatly. There is VIP in each box, (Thanks S Max). My one piece moulds fit in two drawers in a cabinet.
