Ok take two!

I have been eyeballing a small semi 22RF for decades. Wanted a Beretta since forever. My grandfather had a 87 (much bigger) but great shoooter. The lil 950 was small but the DA trigger of the 21a was appealing. When Beretta sold off the SA plant and Taurus started making there version I almost jumped again!! Never did.

I got to shoot this Ruger when they was first released and was honestly very impressed. It shot everything I had on hand and cycled perfectly with subs std and hyper velocity ammo! Accuracy and sights where better then expected too!!

I opted for the S&W M&P22 for the same purposes....a little bigger but handy, accurate with adjustable sights. The only problem I had was the barrel thread cover kept coming loose until I lock tighted it.

If it's anything like (or as good as) the LC9's Pro, it'd be a solid GO as far as I'm concerned. I really like ALL my small Ruger handguns .

I have been looking at those also but have been unable to put my hands on one.

I want something small and lightweight to dispatch animals in my traps. Also preferable something cheap and corrosion resistant considering the environment it will be in. Things get pretty nasty when running a coyote line.

Those Beretta 87 pistols were NICE GUNS. Over the years I had an 81 (32 ACP) and 84 (380 ACP), but could never score an 87. Years went by, and a SIG Mosquito entered the arena. It took a while to break in (1500 rounds!), but once past that speed bump it runs wonderfully on CCI ammo--and nothing else. 22 rimfire autoloaders can be finicky feeders, I get that--but Ruger Mk-whatever 22 pistols and 10/22s seen able to eat anything, and shoot with reasonable accuracy. It ain't rocket science.

First semi-auto pistol I owned was a Beretta 948 my father gave me for my 12th birthday. While it was used, if was very nice and shot as well as I could hold. Traded it off for my first Ithaca pump gun. Found another like new one a couple of years ago, about $300 out the door. A little bigger than those listed above, but will shoot anything and are accurate. Only bad part is spare magazines are hard to find and expensive. But you can find the 6 inch target barrels occasionally for long range plinking.

Thats the GRRRR PART..
I surely did have a title... typed it twice!! But if ya tripple space.. then dont look. The curser goes back to last position & highlights the last text block/ word then if ya aint careful, it delete it!!! ( I saw there was just a "dot" but was not able to edit the title alone.)
Matter of a fact, it has Happened TWICE writing this!!! But I'm watching so I fixed it.
I like to space my paragraphs but forum software DONT! So this is result... IF YA don't know, aren't careful or are making a rushed/quick posting. Could be just iPhone as 98% of my posts are from my iphone.

I had a 85 for a while as the 84 was like a super chunk!! 85 even as single stack was THICK!! ;). Shot real good and I liked it. Sold it for a Colt 1909. Then sold that!!

I picked it up today. Three quick mags in function drum in repair area. Ill shoot when I can get back to range but 30 shots where goose grease!! CCI mini mags.

Yes, paragraph spacing will get you when using an iPhone. I’ve just figured out to watch for it. I also like to space my paragraphs.

I have had the Ruger LCP II , since early Spring. Bought it to shoot up the copious amount of 22 LR ammo, on hand. It is nearly 100% reliable with any of the CCI labeled ammunition.........Blazers, Stingers, Velocitators, and Mini-Mags. It has about 10% FTF with Remington Thunderbolts and Winchester promotional ammo. More than half of which will fire on the second strike. I suspected a weak firing pin strike but CCI ammo out ruled that.

BTW, I'm a southpaw and was a bit put off with the manual right handed safety. However, I can easily reach over with the thumb of my shooting hand to disengage.

Was looking to purchase Ruger LCRx in 22 LR but couldn't warrant the extra $200 for a rimfire revolver. I do love my LCR in 357 Magnum.

When I get down to shop, later, I'll look at my records and see how many rounds I've put though it. What little Federal ammo, I have, seemed to work OK............American Eagle HP's and Federal Lightning.

BTW, Ruger offers a twin pack of spare magazines, that is a much better deal than the singles.

I grabbed that dbl pack!! Three mags should be good. Found a knife sheath that fits a mag perfect. Not sure this will be carried more then woods walks and such. But might need a holster.
Anyone try that clip thingie? The one that attaches to the gun. Not normally a fan of that kinda thing. But this isnt normal For me either. ;)

Just checked my range notebook..................yes, I keep track of the number of rounds shot through each firearm. The LCP II has 1954 rounds through it, using three different magazines. Most of which was the promotional Thunderheads and Wildcats.

I shot about 250/300 shots tonight. Mostly NOT SO great. :embarrassed:

Winchester Wildcats
Remington Golden bulk HP
Winchester Segmented 40g @ 1450
CCI Segmented
Browning Segmented 40g 1435
Federal HV 40g RN 1250
CCI MiniMAG RN 40g
CCI STD vel
Eley B50
RWS Target Rifle

ONLY CCI MINI, Rem Golden & CCI Segmented functioned.

ALL OTHERS either misfires ( light strikes) or wouldnt function ( slide not moving reward enough to eject and or pick up next shell.
RWS & CCI std would manually "run" perfectly.

SUPRIZINGLY Both Winchester & Browning wouldnt eject empties. They acted EXACTLY like TARGET ammo BUT FOR FIRE BALLS!

I seem to remember cutting main spring coils

Also until I heavily lubed this gun nothing worked well. Then like magic Rem Goldens where 100%.

Im thinking of narrowing the FP tip to more of a chisel point.

The gun has THE WORST crown I have ever ever seen!!!! My 100$ Crickets are MUCH BETTER!!! Ill get good pics then fix that. I did put the out but never attempted groups.

Im not put off. I like a challenge.

Found some burrs in barrel lug. A good rub with 2000g paper smoothed that fine.

Barrel muzzle before. The raised lip can be sceen. Sorry didnt realize my focus was imperfect but the "bad" can be sceen.

Some of the grind compound is seen in last pic before cleaning.

I also clipped 1 1/2 coils. MUCH smoother and FAR LESS stacking at full open.

One quick magazine into the sand box resulted in full clean function and one scared Lahasa!! Poor baby had come half way down stairs to see me. And I didnt know. Safe 100%just noise sensitive.

Hope ta shoot tomorrow.

I either heard or read somewhere that Ruger's were DIY Kit guns. There might be some truth to that. I cleaned up and deburred, shimmed trigger and hammer on my LCRx3 and it smoothed right up. My SS Blackhawk was a project, deburring, throating the chambers (typical tight uneven throats in a 45 Colt). I suppose the factory could have and should have had all that done, but I don't mind, and to tell the truth I kind of enjoy tinkering with them. I get a sense of accomplishment when they come together.

If nothing else it forces you to become familiar with the workings of your firearm.
