One day soon.....................

Are you like me ?
I know I need to do certain things, and I'll say " One day soon " I'll do this or that. Catch is, that one day never seems to come and the thing I needed or wanted to make never comes to pass.

I'm a professional gun stock refinisher.
I've needed this for many yrs. and never stopped and took the time to make one. Today changed that, today I stopped what I was doing and made what I've wanted and needed for many years.

It is a rack to hold a stock that has wet stock finish on it.
In the past , I tried to lean them against a wall , etc .
Never was happy with that approach.

I'm about 30-40 % finished with a rifle stock from TX.
Thought I'd hang it on my new rack for photo purposes.

My drying rack is put together with wood glue and air nails.

I really think I'm going to like this :

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
Nice Ben. Looks like it would work while you are staining, not just for drying.

Ben, Great! You make me feel bad about using a nail I pounded into the shop wall 40 years ago! Very elegant solution to the problem. Ric

Fantastic job Ben!!!

Great tool to take the worry of a stock finishing job accidentally being messed up.

Have a good evening.

I've always carried a pretty good load of guilt about my procrastinating ways. Ben has now given me an extra load.

Maybe that will get me to stop taking so many "breaks" and get me to forge ahead and be more productive.

The irony of all of this is I could have been using it 20 years ago if I'd just taken the time to make it.

I'd thought about how I wanted it to look for a long time, I just never took the initiative to do the job of making it. Maybe there is a " mini-lesson " in this for all of us ?

Ben,

Have always beenl fond of the Pa. Dutch saying, "Ve got to soon old and to
late smart!" That holds true for an old procrastinator like me for sure.
So little time, so much to do once we think about it and get our tails in
gear!

OK, I'm shifting gears tomorrow. Already went out to the shop today and started making plans to improve my situation out there. I've been focused on home improvement for several months now, but haven't really dedicated any time to making today's life any better.

Shop is now so cluttered it's near impossible to machine anything or do any reloading chores other than brass prep.

While trying to figure out how to create more floor space by storing brass and cast bullets differently, I found about 150 to 200 rounds of 44 S&W SPL. cases; about half were primed. I don't remember those at all and I don't have anything to shoot them in.

Tomorrow I go to Costco and buy yet another shelf unit. Right now, there's a very nice, very clean, mid '60s, 18 horse Evinrude outboard on the floor in front of the "FLAMMABLES" cabinet. Got to find a different place for that, move a box of RC model airplane propellers into the rafters, repack 2 roll-aways and re-position one and place the new shelf unit behind it. Brass and cast bullets will go on the new shelf unit.

Working on the shop may not improve the house but it will make it easier pack up to move.

SW, I do not envy the task you will face when you decide to immigrate to the USA, though I'm pretty sure I'd like to be first in line at your moving sale.

Oh there's not gonna be any sale. When we move it'll be more like a rebirth, not a death. So, I'm planning on taking it all with me.
It is my intention to move most of the stuff myself, with the exception of the mill, lathe and probably the new gun safe, which comes in at just under a ton. I know I'll probably be making at least two round trips, plus a one-way across the country.

I don't look forward to the work and logistics involved, but sure look forward to saying farewell to Kali and hello to the U.S. I'm also hoping that perhaps I'll get some invites to meet for coffee here and there from people I've been talking to like this, for nearly 5 years.

In the meantime, while Mrs. smokeywolf and I bide our time for what we think is most advantageous for the boys education, it's organize & consolidate antique oil lamps, bottles, locks, gun stuff, horse tack, RC boat & airplane stuff, machinist, gunsmithing, stock making, saddle making tools, and update, upgrade and remodel this cracker box of a house.
