Well I finally broke down and ordered one. I really only need one to check the bores to see if they need cleaned.
But, I assembled two new AR15s. One is done with all old leftover and removed parts. The other is completely new everything. And this one is one that has me worried. I have been seeing all kinds of people that have the same barrel maker as I used. It is a Ballistic Advantage 18" SPR in a SS 1-8tw that is melonited twice. QPQ is what they call it. It is quenched in the salts then the bore is polished and then quenched gain.
The barrels i have seen the problems with are the regular SS fluted barrels. I mean really bad. The latest one I seen over on ar15.com the leade is cut like normal them there is a hard ring and edge where it should be smooth. It looks like the reamer was oversized in the throat and it just shaved off the taper till it was almost down to the groove diameter. Almost like there was no taper ground into the reamer.
The guy says it shoots OK but has not shot it enough to see how bad it copper fouls. from what I see of it that bullet looks like it is getting shaved enough to rattle all the way down.
I have not seen any reports on this actual barrel that I have. All the melonited barrel test i have seen comes from their modern series which is their cheapest barrel. This one is their Premium Black series.
