Rick,
One quart of peroxide, one cup of baking soda, one tablespoon of dish washing liquid. Mix in an open container, and never put it in a closed container and shake, because it will blow the top off. Apply liberal amounts anywhere but in the dogs eyes. I usually use an old paint brush. The skunk odor will be gone almost immediately. For a long haired, or larger dog, just double the amount. It can also be applied to your lawn, or anywhere the skunk sprays.
I think a male Fisher stinks worse than anything. They rake up piles of leaves and snow and deposit their musk on it during mating season. You can smell it riding by on a snowmobile. You don't want to be walking through a Fisher mound and getting it on your boots. I can think of a lot of things I'd rather do in January other than washing a snowmobile outside!
Most of the mustalids are pretty intense at the right time of year. A red fox is pretty intense in January also. The spotted skunks, have a real long lasting heavy musk. Not as intense at first as a striped skunk, but it lasts a long time. Lure makers use it in canine formulas, for good reason.
My wife finds the smell of otter especially offensive(heavy fish odor).
