That's why the storm surge runs 10 miles or more inland during a hurricane...too damn flat!
I grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains and their only great if your a tourist on the Parkway or Skyland drive.

I have done Hurricanes on both coast, Gulf is the worst for storm surge no doubt there.

Well this morning we were going to pull out from New Albany Mississippi for Shreveport LA, but besides the standard late start, I pulled the truck and trailer forward and jockeying back and forth a bit, there was a clunking coming from the wheel on the driver’s side of the trailer. Ok, that needs to be checked out.
Anyway pulled the wheel and drum expecting for a possibility that parts would be falling out when the drum was removed.
Nothing. Everything was tight and the magnet and drum looked good. Had Beth’s X look it over and he said it looked good to him.
Well back together and a test drive.
The only thing I can figure is that action of moving forward you hit the brakes, Same for backing up. Just was thinking that the magnet was releasing late. During the test drive I played with the brake controller which was set for about max braking. Back it offa bit so we’ll see. Going to leave in the morning. As long as that creek stays in its banks. Want to be in Marana Az to visit with Bob who’s Beth Ann’s brother by Saturday.

Marana is a quaint little place. Older Bro lived there. Passed a couple yrs ago. He had a snake fence around his yard. I spent some time in Oro Valley on business, never got to Mt lemon. I was passing through Shreveport Sunday, water wasn't too bad - roads are terrible. Look for a bypass! Construction downtown westbound. Can't get to Az without going through Tx.

Best guess without having seen it, brake controller set at max, brakes locked up tight, when you start to move the clunk you heard was probably the brakes letting loose.
I believe that is exactly what happened. I’ve backed the controller down a bit. Still plenty of braking

Yep, A little condensation overnight, maybe a little surface rust and maybe just a little hiccup when cold. Enough you could hear it but not enough to notice upon inspection. You are smart enough to stop and inspect it, which makes you smarter than most.

Well we traveled south and then west to Shreveport LA arrived about dinner time everything worked well, brakes, air conditioning which is vital.
This is mid April and it’s hotter than a pop corn fart. But it’s not the heat, it’s 91% humidity. Killer.
Karyn, I’m thinking of just calling her “The Boss” or something like that, she doesn’t want to drive 600 miles a day, preferably about 400.

So I’m going to get more snail pictures from son Tommy describing our crawl across parts of America.
We stayed in a KOA last night and probably will again tonight in Abilene as well. Need to plug in to use the air conditioner.
Abilene will be an improvement with 71% humidity and a blessing of nighttime temperatures in the mid 50’s. Big improvement.
Next will be a longer segment of 500 miles to Las Cruces NM. Night time temperatures in the mid 50’s again, but the humidity is down to a reasonable 28%. Won’t need help unstinting my tee shirt from my body with out ripping it off. Dry heat.
I’m sorry, humidity is not for me.
But it’s beautiful country. Can’t get enough of it, but the humidity needs to be dialed back a bit.
We aren’t going to get to Marana till Sunday night I guess, but that brake fiasco kinda screwed things up.
Karyn and I have been talking about next winter’s escape. Thinking about doing a Civil War tour in the southern states.

One thing we have finally figured out, not that we weren’t sure about it before, but driving 65 to 70 with the trailer we got 8.7 miles per gallon. So I slowed it down to 60 - 62 and we got 10.7 miles per gallon.
This is the first time where we weren’t having heavy winds from various directions.
But we were did get just over 12 when we first started with the new trailer but we were going 55 - 60 and irritating everyone on the road. Conditions were good as well, flat road and no wind to speak of.
Well we are going to Abilene in a bit, but enjoy what passes as cool temperatures sitting outside drinking coffee.
And Miss Biscuit.

Yeah but it’s Alaska in reverse. We spend more time inside in the winter and down here people spend more time inside then outside in the hotter months.

Makes sense, seeing as drag is a function of velocity squared.
Double the speed, incur 4 times the drag.

Me, I would just irritate everyone and drive at 55 to 60.
That's what the right lane is for.

Unfortunately lots of folks think that's the purpose of the LEFT lane.

Is it illegal to launch a Sidewinder missile at someone driving in the left lane at the identical speed of the traffic in the right lane?

And if it is illegal to use such force, Why is it illegal?

Except summer isn't 10 months long.
Oh come on man. Can’t remember who said that, but, it fits.
Winter is only 6 or 7 months. Let’s not exaggerate Rick.
I’m sitting here in mid April and it’s pretty miserable around these parts. So let’s see, the misery index. Half of April, May, June, July, August, September and probably half of October. So that’s 5 months not counting the 2 half months. So 6 months. Sounds pretty close.

You’re right. Yeah I gave up caring a while back.

Well we got to get going. The sun came out from behind the clouds and that misery index is kicking in.
