Precisely why I don't reside in Texas. A lifelong friend tried talking me into moving to Texas when he did.

I told him . . .

I think John's soft side is showing, he thinks 90⁰ and 95% is "miserable...HA! Come back through south Texas in a couple of months.
You can have it Ian.
Been there, done that.
Never again.

I used to work for Continental Airlines.
In 1988 they needed help at Hobby Airport in Houston; they were way behind on their C checks down there.
I was single at the time and wanted all that overtime, so I volunteered to go down there for a month and work 12 hour days, six days a week.

For the whole month of July.
On day shift.

That was one of the worst mistakes I have ever made.
I had never experienced heat and humidity like that before, and I spent a summer in Wichita Falls doing tech training at Shepherd AFB in '78.
Come 1993, when Stapleton International here in Denver shutdown and DIA opened, I had a choice of transferring to Houston or taking a layoff.
Needless to say, I took the layoff.

It's all about what you're used to. Allen used to work traffic stuff at 120 degrees all day in a wool uniform with body armor, granted the humidity was single-digits but still it takes a tough son of gun to do that. We don't get that kind of heat here, but have seen 110 on occasion with plenty of humidity.

One thing about it, I have NEVER had to shovel or plough heat to get to work.

Going from June Gloom to Phan Rang took some getting used to, when I got back home I was cold for the first couple of weeks of the 30-days leave. Got used to the Mojave's heat and cold, too. Don't want to live in either place, though.

Ian, that’s, not going to happen. Period.

I worked in Indio and Palm Springs sheeting and nailing roofs in the summer in the early 70’s. I am very familiar with HOT.

Hey, at least you got out of there, now we have to talk some sense into you about dealing with 20' of snow and minus 60. There are....less extreme alternatives?

Very true! But it’s pretty crowded down here and it’s LOUD!! I know there’s a couple of places that are quiet, but they are few and far between anymore
I find quite a few people that say, well it’s quiet here or there, but I have found only one or two people who really know what quiet is. Most people are so used to the background noise that they live in, that they just can’t hear it anymore.
So the more I travel the more I appreciate where I live.
Spending 20 years on the waters of Prince William Sound and being at anchor in a small bite will teach a person what quiet is.

-20 to-60 below on a moon up night is as beautiful and quiet as it gets.
And we only got about 6 feet of snow this year anyway.

Well yesterday we drove from New Albany Mississippi to Shreveport LA. I must say that the drivers in those two states don’t have a clue on how to merge with traffic. Give a guy a lane that is set up for merging into an Interstate and rather than accelerating to merge at least 4 times they would slow down or hit the brakes. One idiot ended up on the shoulder because he ran out of room. I couldn’t move over sometimes because of traffic, but other times I didn’t move over because a sane driver had plenty of space and time to merge unless they would slow or brake.
I have on a very rare occasion seen that, but at least 4 times in one day?
But Texas takes the cake. You talk about idiots, a couple of times a person in the far left lane would cut across 4 lanes to hit an exit. I’m not talking about changing a lane then another, I’m talking zing, just shooting across.
Then there is the hot rod big wheel 4x4’s cutting in and out of traffic.
Three states and crazy drivers.

funny how sounds work.
when we bought the place over in Grace i never noticed the noise the river made since it was exactly the same as the noise the freeway made at the place in Midvale.

Las cruces is a very neat town that used to have a great used book store in the down town plaze.

We always stayed in the RV park west of town on top of the hill.

Well we are using KOA because it’s easy to book for places that you have never been to. Easy on line booking with the APP.
When we have time we do more web shopping for less expensive camping. KOA isn’t cheap but offers lots of amenities. Most of which we don’t need, but bathrooms with showers and propane as well. Anyway I’m trying to make tracks so KOA makes that easy.
Sundays leg will be to Marana AZ to say Hi to Cousin Bob and dinner and a beverage. Next morning we’re off to Yucaipa CA where we will be stay at the Yucaipa Regional Park. We have 4 nights booked, but there wasn’t any space for Friday and Saturday so we booked KOA in Banning. Have quite a few relatives to see and our Grandson in North Hollywood. Plus we will be visiting with Ruben a very good friend and about as close to family as possible. We will be meeting with Ruben and son Andrei again hopefully in Tehachapi hopefully to meet Andrei’s wife and two little ones. They have a “cabin” (I would call it a nice size house) for the last 45 years and Andrei bought a nice big house 2 years ago, on the lake. The cabin is used as a guest house now We haven’t met the wife and kids yet so we are hoping to arrange all that.

Well back to our gas mileage test.
When I was doing a 62 mile per hour we got 11.4 per gallon. Big improvement over over the 8.7.
But yesterday we decided to set the cruise control to 58. Be nice if we can get back to 12 MPG.
I
I would drive as fast as conditions and the law allow, and pay for the fuel.
But that's me.
Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

But in reality we’re talking 12,000 miles. If I can save 20 to 25% on gas, then Damn those torpedoes. But P&P YMMV.
And the truck likes it better as well.

12 mpg for 12000 miles is about $4000 in fuel . 10 mpg for 12000 miles is about $4800 in gas. $800 is a whole weeks wages take home at $26/hr . It's your 40 hours to spend .
