I don't cast HP bullets, but IIRC--maybe from the Sierra reloading manual--the rationale for the Matchking bullet's HP and significant empty space in the bullet nose was to move the bullet's balance point more toward the rear to enhance long-range stability.
that's the selling point for those buck err 3 buck apiece aluminum tip rounds Hornady sells.

I'm happy with my 3" 24-3 and a 6 1/2" 624, but a .44 Special Blackhawk would be icing on the cake.

Sad as it will be, in the coming months the 24-3 will be on consignment sale.:sigh:

The time has come to reassess the last 26-years of accumulating guns and casting and reloading equipment. It's not a matter of mental or physical issues, but thinking ahead has become prudent. Just another aspect of
pre-geezerhood.
I am just a few hundred miles North of you Uncle Mike. Just saying....:)

I'm thinking of estate issues. One 44 Special, one 45 Colt, one 357, one, or maybe two, 45 ACP. "He who dies with the most toys wins" is a lie and not true. The estate sells the guns for maybe 2/3 of value to get the money within a year's time.

I LOVE the 44 SPC! (Do have to admit, the 44-40 is a real Siren, tho!)

I (now) have a TR 21-4 4", a 624 6 1/2" and my Woods/Personal PET - A Ruger NMBH Flattop 4 5/8" - all in 44 SPC!

And about that 44-40.... have a Uberti SA 4 5/8" and Cimarron 1873 24" Sporting Rifle. I am MOST likely picking up a Smith 544 TX Commemorative; prob going to get a 44-40 conv cylinder for the BH, AND may get an 1866 Yellowboy in 44-40.

I consider myself VERY lucky... I really do not expect my guns to go the ES route. 5 boys. 2 grandkids (and just getting started). All the boys are hunters/shooters. and so are the DILs (currently 3x, and 4th future DIL). I have no fear my guns will get pawned!

Casting/Reloading stuff, OTOH... however, once they figure out the logistics of shooting the "Cool Dad/Granddad guns," All bets are off! Hopefully they figure out the casting/reloading stuff 'for I croak, so I can teach them! Betting the GKs will drive that (ala Ben example!).

I just inventoried MY BEST FRIENDS guns for His Wife. They'll be sold next month. He didn't expect to pass as quickly as he did. No one to leave them to. I don't really have anyone to leave my stuff to either. My Daughter will probably want a Glock nine and all the loaded ammo for it. But that's it. A lot of Family Guns too.

Sad to die and not have anyone to leave your stuff too.
