At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
This $1900 high miler (260k miles) looks pretty decent, was listed only 3 days ago, and is located Sauk Rapids, MN (between me and Rally).

"1997 2500 (3/4 Ton), 5.7L V8, Chevrolet, 9 passenger, 4x4 Suburban with towing package. The perfect vehicle to move your boat to the lake. The rear seats are removable for extra hauling and the middle seats fold down. Last fall we installed new front brake pads and rotors, upper and lower ball joints, idler arm/ idler arm bracket/ and pitman arm, power steering line from pump to booster, and axel shaft seals. The U-joint for front wheel drive may need some attention in the future, four wheel drive does work good. Its a Minnesota vehicle and has some rust."

It's the rust that the issue. I found a fairly local 97 up from Florida with all the bells and whistles and 130K on it...$8900.00 plus 8% sales tax! But, ZERO rust. In NYS that's like finding a Pope barreled Stevens 44 1/2 with period correct Malcolm scope and all the accessories for $500.00. Chances are I'll end up in a rusted out Escape and call it close enough.

Got all the elastomeric parts of my prosthetic lower leg replaced. Prosthetisist had a good laugh when he took off my foot form - it fits over the carbon fiber prosthetic foot and under my shoe - and poured out about a quarter cup of metal chips.

We have a friend that has a plot of land with a registered cemetery he welcomed us to place a stone for my Dad . It's only a couple acres maybe 16-18 occupied plots . There are dozens of "family" plot type cemeteries ......but it's the south and there's a post office or township about every 3-4 miles .

Some years ago I saw an article that surprised me regarding disposition of bodies . I don't imagine there's any regulations about where one might park a marker . I've seen plenty of multiple marker plots I expect urns added to a casket in most cases . I've only had cause to be party to explore that once , the general consensus was that the plot was paid for and whatever marker was placed was up to the owner/heirs and , pardon the blunt , I guess most don't object to or require substantial payment for post holing an urn and/or adding an additional marker .

My uncle Jim wanted buried with my Grand Pa. The local laws would not allow it, at least without a very expensive variance, and a bribe.
So when he died, his family cremated him. Then a certain bunch of folks went to the cemetery at night, and dug a hole with a post hole digger.
A certain nephew of his, was a minister at that time read the 23 psalm, a short prayer said, Amazing Grace was sung and everyone went there way. My Uncle Jim never did cotton to regulations, and permits, even in death.
I was not there, of course;)

I thought about getting a memorial stone and putting it here on the farm. Maybe someday.

Wet here, thankfully! Supposed to get hot and muggy. Haying should start for us this weekend. Oh boy...

Personally I don't need a stone. Told the wife to cremate me, spread some ashes up on the hill where I got so many limits of quail as a kid and young man when we still had quail. Take a family vacation and spread some up on the mountain where the boys and I hunted elk. Throw the rest in the ditch.

No cemetery plot, no casket, no service. Cremate me, put my ashes in a mylar bag, bag in a GI ammo can and buy a new gun with the money saved. Every time they shoot or reload for that gun they'll think of me. That puts a smile on my face right now.
Mrs. smokeywolf and I will eventually occupy the same ammo can, if not the same mylar bag. Besides, I like the idea of being portable.

We have 3 sons, they can share us. And, although son #1 is a stepson to Mrs. smokeywolf, he knows she was much more of a mom to him than his biological mom ever was.

Met a guy at this range, this morning, and we got to talking about the non-availability of ammunition and reloading components. He works for a company (40-miles away) that manufactures the explosive packages for military aircraft ejection seats and to blow their canopies, and military and commercial explosive bolts. The company uses Winchester primers to initiate the charges, and guess what?

Yep, the company is facing the same primer dearth that we are.

The guy who mentored me into AutoCAD was a draftsman for a company that produced explosive bolts.

Just got back from another trip the sawbones. Appts. for both me and Mrs. I have to go back for a blood draw.
Mrs. smokeywolf is now officially no longer diabetic. Careful diet and losing over 30% of her weight has lowered her A1C and some other measurement to pre or sub-pre diabetic levels. Doc said, check your BG only if you feel funny. Eat normally, just not stupidly. Otherwise, we'll do another blood workup 6 months from now.

Stopped at the home improvement depot store and picked up 120 lbs. of tick killer granules to spread on front acre or so of grass.

Congrats to the Mrs. Smokeywolf. I know it's not easy to do, been working haphazardly towards that end for a few years now. Down near 40 lbs and A1c has been running between 6.2and 6.4 for a year and half now. Working out hard, but just can't stay away from the ice cream.
Sounds like I may be due for carpel tunnel surgery, maybe both hands.
