I`ve been picking concord grapes.
I have been getting 5 gal buckets full.
We will juice them.
We will give some of them away for others to juice.
These steam juicers are the ticket.
Put in your fruit, put water in the bottom, and turn on the heat.
Go find other things to do while the juicer does it`s thing.
Put the hot juice in quart jars and screw on the lids.
I`ve been getting 2 gallons a batch..

Spent the morning picking Maitake / Sheep's head mushrooms for our huge "Magic" white oak tree! It never fails to deliver!
Recently we had much rain and a few 40 deg mornings so I knew it was time! Picked the first batch that weighed in at 18lbs ....processed those and went out for another batch ....( there were 5 more like this!)
Health benefits are worth the extra work! That is a 9" Knife blade for scale!

California's Central Coast Amid The Insanity
The get-away, though not far-away, was great. We're thinking Angles Camp next month, as the high 90 to 100 degree temperatures will have cooled to a livable level, and the smoke should be less.

Now it's back amid the insanity.

I woulda been waaay too full of mushrooms to go get more.

poor G-boy today.
I told him if he seen a squirrel I would help him shoot it with my shotgun.
him and the aunt got ahead of me and his uncle when I spotted a squirrel jumping off an overhanging branch and landed hard with a giant dirt poof in the road.
I don't know how he survived the jump let alone have enough energy left to go chasing another squirrel on the other side of the road.
the fight was on and we just stood there watching the melee until they come running up a dead tree right where we were standing, I tried calling the boy up to us but he was busy goofing off so I had the uncle shoot one.
man when he found out we shot the squirrel and he wasn't gonna get the tail he broke down into an nearly inconsolable tear fest.
he really wanted that tail so he could try and trade his mom for her first deer's tail.
so I took about 10 minutes and explained to him [again for like the 10th time now] that he had to get his own tail to either make the trade or wait and get his own deer so he could have the tail off it.

Spent yesterday messing around with mechanical stuff. Tore into the MF65 some more in preperation for replacing sleeves and pistons, likely rod bearing too. Then I got into the nightmare Coleman UTV/Side by Side/whatever you want to call it. Checked spark- good, a bit scattered IMO, but these are the correct NGK's everyone else says are THE plug for this engine. Checked the injector- got a spray/puff/shot of gas. Pulled fule line off injector and the fuel pump seemed to be pumping lots of gas. Checked valves- at TDC they have about the right amount of clearance. Checked for loose wiring, etc too. All this after I pulled the dump box so I could gain easier access to the engine. Tried starting it and after 30 seconds or so it slowly came to life! I got it warmed up good and it would rev up well into the 6-7K rpm area, but not with a load on it. After a while it started it's old spit and sputter stuff. I'm thinking at this point that the fuel pump may be weak. I also know the only filter in the system anymore is the fuel pump sock and that the Chineseium fuel line doesn't look real high quality. I'm ordering a pump, a better quality injector and I'm going to put better fuel line on it. If it's not that, if it's electronic failure, I'm screwed, glued and tattooed. I am not a big fan of electronic fuel injection systems since you are basically up the creek w/o a paddle if they start to malfunc. Hoping for the best, prepping for failure!

Did anyone get the latest American Rifleman Mag? Go to page 81 and read John Havilands blurb in his RCBS article wherein he states, "The number of handloaders who cast their own bullets is dwindling. About the only bullet casters remaining are those who do so for cartridges that lack commonly available projectiles." Haviland has never been much in the "gifted" category, but that line is simply asinine. The Rifleman is not really a mag I care for anymore, mostly advertising for whoever is willing to pay for it, but they do have good historical reads and I am a Life member, so...

I saw that line and had the same reaction as you did. I dutifully download their pdf every month, but I have to admit I haven't read much of any of it in a very long time.

On the other hand, I read my Fouling Shot magazine from the Cast Bullet Association from cover to cover as soon as the pdf is made available.

But I must one of those people that cast for projectiles that are not commonly available....

I`ve been picking concord grapes.
We had a concord grape arbor in our backyard growing up in Oregon.

Your post brought back so many good memories for me this morning of helping my mother harvest, and then process and then make them into the best grape jelly in the world. What I wouldn't give, to be able to tell my mother once more, thank you for those childhood memories.

Just read that article, mostly it reminded me of why I don't read any of the rags anymore and haven't for years. I did however learn that RCBS now has the Match Master powder dispenser, I was unaware of that. Article didn't say if it is in addition to or replaces the Charge Master which I have had since they first came out and dearly love.

Fake news is everywhere. Many expository writers are in fact publishing poorly-researched Op-Eds instead, and either don't know the difference or assume their audience doesn't.

I remember a College Journalism class. We did an exercise where we measured the advertising column inches in Motor Trend magazine for the 6 months before the announcement of the Motor Trend Car of the Year. We were able to accurately predict the winner. We then went back and checked the previous 5 years. Yep, the car with the most advertising column inches in the rag won 100% of the time. That was way back in the late 1960's. It hasn't got any better since then.

Well, let's be honest. Gun rags have always abounded with thrilling hunts and highly scientific ballistics experimentation that all took place soley on the typewriter/keyboard of the hack producing it- at a given $ per word. There were darn few Sharpes, Ackleys, Keiths and Waters out there. OTOH, the Simpsons, Havilands, Boddingtons, et al exist in realtively large numbers.

Well he's half right ...... With very few (comparitively) bullets available in the market everyone casting IS casting for the un and low availability bullets .
The phrasing makes it sound like it's all about .318s for 7.92 Js and sloppy 303& 7.7s .....
I doubt many would consider 45 Colts and 45-70 as obscure cartridges ......

The only reason I tolerate The American Rifleman is because I am a life member so it is free. I also, like you and others, like TFS and the CBA forum.

I also like your new avatar hporter.

Got the Boyd's (CVA) stock today, little sandpaper work, some dremeling and it fits. Like it! Fortunately I did have the correct star wrench to remove the old one.

Thank you.

I can't remember which life membership level I am at now, so yes I get it for free as well. I certainly wouldn't buy an issue if they were for sale on the newsstand. Aside from the historical articles on guns of yesteryear, I find nothing of value to me in it. The only reason I saw the quote referenced above is because I was interested in what RCBS was up to.

I wish they would have an article (or anyone else) on what Ruger was doing with the Marlin line. That subject, I would love to know about.
