Bill makes a good point. Time to change the topic a bit to keep things toned down.

We all have opinions on some matters but let’s keep them in check and not let bicycles on the road divide a bullet casting forum.

Nuff said

I finally got off my butt and ordered the material for a small engine project. I went with 12L14 for the flywheel because 3” brass rod is awful spendy.
Now I need to order some bearings, and taps. Will likely need a rotary table too.

Might cut a chunk off and learn to set up bolt hole circles on the DRO tomorrow.

As long as I've been using DROs on mills, I still use the "polar to rectangular" feature on my calculator for locating coordinates in bolt circles.

Yes I am. May take me a year or so? Plans I found are all metric so I debating some changes to English threads instead of getting metric taps and dies.
Will be a good learning experience to get everything to line up properly.

Truth be told Keith I am a bit intimidated. Never built something like this or anything with this kind of need to fit together right.

Will be a challenge to my skills

Not a dragster engine. I don’t want nitromethane around the house.

You'll learn a whole lot but I have confidence that if you take your time and think things thru you'll do fine. Looking forward to your posts on this, holler if I can do anything to help.

A hot air engine, interesting. The U where I preached had a Stirling(sp) engine that we would demonstrate in our thermo II class. This looks like it could be a fun project for sure.

I looked at many other designs but wanted a simpler design and fewer parts.

I considered a Sterling engine but decided this one looked good for a starter project. Maybe next time?

Pretty cool. So the Marlin re-barrel is on back burner?
That is on hold for now. Cost of barrel is a barrier, I can be cheap? I have a 357 revolver waiting for a new barrel too.

Too many projects that need to be done and only so much time and money.
