i'll throw in old cheby trucks to the list of clutchless shifts.
my FIL used to just about come out of his seat when I'd run the old 6 banger without using the clutch.
I tried teaching him how to do it when he got older and couldn't shift himself around as well to work the pedals, but the concept of throttle bumps and 500 rpm drops by ear/feel eluded him.

OK,got the shop truck loaded to do what,well... they do,so its parked.

Took the Park ave Buick-should've been an Aston Martin, and loaded up some last year firewood for tonight. It'll be the first time we fire up the wood furnace, and driving down through the woods with the Park ave just seems fitting? Just sayin, these weather liars better be on their game seein as we're driving around in the "ave" collecting firewood?

My 01 Buick century has made a splendid pickup-truck on many occasions. Only downside is no ski pole hole, so anything over 6' is a no-go. Had an 8 pt. buck in ther one time and three medium sows at another. It didn't get sketchy until I tried hauling 600# of ingots back there, ended up moving a bunch to the back floorboards.

Last I heard the big cats in this country are all the same mountain lions, with color variations. Supposedly some subspecies of same. Colors can change just like beaver come in everything from pale blonde to pure black. Beaver have adapted to their habitat and seem to change color to fit their habitat, to include color, hair length, and under fur. There were a lot of restoration projects done in the US to repopulate some areas of the south with say beaver from Mi to Ky and such. The beaver show some of the characteristics/ habits prevalent from the areas they came from for quite some time. Some beaver were even parachuted into some areas of the west. Most states are now regretting those repopulation efforts, due to the damage being done, by beaver, to highways and timber. Kinda like the Timberwolf restoration going on now. Trail cams have made liars out of many biologists.

We've got mountain lions in east Texas, near Nacogdoches. That's where our deer lease is.
I've seen them from my deer stand a couple of times, right at dawn.
Last year, we actually had one come thru our camp about 4:45 AM. We were getting dressed and heard it walking thru camp.
It was sort of growling like a cat in heat, only it sounded like a lion.
Made the hair on my neck stand straight up!
We found tracks the size of your palm where it had walked thru.
We have a primitive camp and are in nylon tents.

Broke a temp record here this morning...got to 14 deg and only made it to 37 by 3:30 pm Whatever leaves were left on the trees all fell off this morning! Trying to finalize winterizing the property. Sure not used to the cold coming on so fast. I'm aching a bit and so is my wife!
Set up the crock pot this morning before heading out doors. I have so much Big Jim ( Hatch stye ) chilies that were fire roasted and peeled and frozen ...from all the recent cold spell scares.... I figure I would use some up and made Green Chili Chicken. Had 5 chicken thighs thawed and ready to go! A hearty meal on a cold day Served it over Brown Rice. Was going to use white but the little lady intervened saying it is better for me....
All I know it was great

Put in about 11 miles hunting pheasant in the Kansas opener. The good, I went 100%. The bad, it was one for one. Used my Dickinson SxS 16 gauge. Population lis really down where we were hunting. Our group of 6 saw a grand total of 4 roosters, but got both that were in range.

I put in three laps around 250 acres on foot after pigs, never saw one. The weather cleared last night, lots of sign where they'd been all over the place yesterday.

Never gotten a shot at a wild pig. Heard some squealing in the brush one time around Milano,Tx but never caught sight of them.

Interesting day today......it started with a search for my keyring, which took about 15 minutes to re-locate. That mission accomplished, I drove about 20 miles out to Mom's house to see cousins that were visiting from the Bay Area. Had a good meal of shrimp and chips, and I'm still pretty full at 6 P.M. from that 3 P.M. repast. Marla's in Beaumont will be my undoing.

I finished The Condor Cuddler 22-250 Test Load assembly when I got home. 36 grain Barnes Varmint Grenade bullets look a lot like Sierra 53 grain Matchkings to me. Ballistic coefficients aren't much different, but sectional densities are about 79% of what lead-core bullets enable. WW-748 is the fuel, sparked by WLR primers, 36.0 to 40.0 grains stair-stepped. Velocity claims are INSANE--3900 to 4300 FPS. We shall see what obtains as far as accuracy goes. 100 rounds, 2 rifles, 10 shots of each increment for each rifle. Just a taste, hopefully enough to make some decisions about CA rat strafing.

22 Hornet will be loaded tomorrow, 30 grain V/Gs. These look like 40 grain Hornet bullets. The 50 grain V/Gs for the 223/5.56 look like 69 grain Matchkings, and require a 1-10" or faster twist to stabilize.

YES--it is very different.

My friend, Ken, was given a box filled with assorted powders and primers, and he gave me three types of primers totaling 1300 and a half-pound H 335. Perusing my manuals, it looks like the powder won't be able to be put to use till I get a bolt action .223, or some other small caliber cartridge.
I had some ground deer meat, from two deer that the twin brother neighbors killed in Big Sur recently, so Ken and I dined on grilled deer burgers and my wife had a cow burger. Yummy all the way round . . .

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Hmmm. Yesterday (Saturday) I had a heck of a time getting on the site and my brief post I thought I sent didn't go and was still here waiting for me today! To wit- "SWMBO is gone to a reunion with her sisters 4 hours away. I've got Gordy, the girl, her besty and the grand daughter is coming to sped the night! The plan is to have a board game Saturday evening and pancakes tomorrow morning. Have to see how the estrogen based moodiness progresses today."

Well, I quashed as much of the moodiness as possible right after that and we had a decent day. Got a little bit of stuff done including a trip to Lowes to get the rest of what I needed for the furnace. Hope to get that finished today. Need to find a good prayer for the Veterans Day Observance tomorrow as I'm giving the invocation.

Happy Marine Corps Birthday!
