I got to setting up some of the loading room ....... I'd forgotten how much stuff I had I guess . Having added Dad's stuff to mine only makes this more interesting . I likely will not have to ever buy another jacketed bullet in 7mm or 25 cal there is the best part of 2000 of them .

The step son ran the 89 7.3 out of fuel and coasted far enough to empty the injection pump . ....... Good times dumped 5 gallons of fuel it and had to break the filter in let and outlet to get enough air out of the system to get it started again I think I want to hook up an electric fuel pump . It is the old stupid diesel with a cam eccentric driven lift pump to the fuel filter/water trap/cutoff assy that feeds the fixed timing injection pump . So at least I could pump it up to clear the fuel lines and filter when this happens . Key on I might even be able to clear the return lines or at least have pressurized injection pump clearing .

This sinus thing / rhinovirus is kicking my butt . I can't remember the last time I took so much stuff to get it dried out , tend the fever , and make me not want to just sleep it off .
I spent about 2 weeks with my back so balled up I couldn't sleep much so that's probably what let my guard down . OJ , hot honey-lemon tea and staying upright seems to help the most , but my strength is zapped and focus is zip .

Got the red bud cut down yesterday, dragged to the curb & chopped up this morning. Cutting isn't bad but the hauling will get to you. Blind friend in the hill country called last nite, fell off the porch and broke arm at elbow. Managed to get up and call only number she remembered. Doc is on a 2 week holiday so a while before fix is accomplished. Her kid is back today so he can help her a bit. Some times you just gotta keep on keeping on.

We get Spam calls stating that our Social Security or Facebook Account or Windows on our computer has been compromised.
We don't even have Facebook Accounts.
Usually, the voice speaks in very broken English and sometimes doesn't even make sense.
Yep got one the other day, saying my social security number was going to be canceled if I did not dial 1 to talk to an IRS agent.
Just for kicks I hit 1. Funny how the IRS agent that answered had a thick middle eastern accent.:headscratch: First thing they tried to do was get my name address and SS#"for confirmation" I told them, "you called me". Next thing was threatening to cancel my SS number if I did not comply, and call ICE to come deport me out of the country. I told them that I never heard of a SS number being canceled or froze till death and did not know the IRS worked directly with ICE . However they could go ahead and do that, then send me an SS-5. There reply was,"What do you mean an SS-5?" I replied "Thought so, click".

SNIP...

If you windshield installer is professional, he/she will be wearing nitrile gloves. Dirt and oils on the hands can adversely effect the bonding of the adhesives on the windshield and windshield frame.
New windshield installed. The installer was wearing nitrile gloves. Also everything else was very professional. There were two rust spots (both top corners), he wire brushed those and put some sealer stuff on it. Also, all the cracks originated from one of them, he said that's typical for those Chevys, rust bubbles will create some stress.

Glad to hear that worked out for you.

A few shots of the HVAC installation in the new building. Wife and I went over right before supper after the workers had called it a day. Hopefully they will get done tomorrow, carpenters can finish drywall and then plumbers can set fixtures and hook up gas.

I'm actually impressed with the way your sparky's have designed all their conduit runs, and the workmanship they have displayed executing it.

went and had Fondue over at Littlegirls place tonight.
a good chunk of Deer tenderloin that was marinated over night then fried in bacon grease accompanied each plate, with a couple I told her not to cook leftover.
the G-Boy knew it was deer, he had watched the whole process from shooting it to eating it and he ate a pretty good chunk himself.
when he gets old enough to hunt on his own, the deer around here are gonna be in serious trouble.

Keith, you're going to have an amazing shop. Wish I was close enough to come by when it's finished and beg for the 2 bit tour.

Haven't heard you mention a tool crib. Will there be a room or area dedicated to storing say, sets of drill blanks, dowel pin reamers, Jo Blocks, shim stock, long calipers, precision levels, specialty cutters?

At the MGM Studios Machine Shop in addition to all of the above, we kept the Rockwell Hardness Tester in the tool crib.

At Universal Studios Machine Shop, whenever we had an order for 10 of something we made 12, 40 of something, we made 44, and so on. Figuring the usual 10% scrap rate, but usually ended up with extras that got labeled and stored in 2 double door cabinets. Can't tell you how many times we were heroes for being able to instantly produce an extra of something because someone damaged a part from their order or miss-calculated.

I wish I was close enough to help. Looking really good, Keith. Is epoxy going on the floors before or after the machines are in place?

Getting the floor sealed after the plumbing is in, once the floor is sealed that's the trigger to unbolt everything from where we are and move it in to the new shop. Right now everything is focused on getting to sealing the floor. Have to get building air temp up to a constant value so floor can get above 50F. Usually that takes three days or so, it will take a day to apply the sealer and they like it to season for a couple days before walking/driving on surface. Looks like it will be right after Thanksgiving.

Would be glad to give the 5 cent tour to anyone that stops in, and the offer to help is appreciated. Seriously, once we're running, if anyone is in the southern Indiana area I would be glad to show off new place, prove it's not a Photoshop fantasy.

Smokey, no tool crib in works right now, but we are going to buy some new roll around tool cabinets and organize things better. We're a small enough shop that we don't feel a need to sign out tools. We often do like you did, we always run a few extra parts if possible, it's nice to show what a finished piece looks like to a new employee. Now that we will have the room we plan to have a display cabinet that we will use to exhibit select pieces of work to visitors and potential customers.

I know from experience that having a display model makes the selling process so much easier.

We just want to put forth a professional front and display our best work. I know that a lot of good work is done in unimpreassive facilities, that it is the employees that are the key to quality work, but why not give ourselves all the advantages we can? Besides, the thought of being in a new, roomier, more convenient facility is making everybody more upbeat.

I want to share two more recents incidents. The first is that about 3 pm yesterday I got a knock on the door. Went to door, there were five young ladies with a basket of Thanksgiving food - canned veggies, instant potatoes, even a pumpkin pie - and a frozen 12 pound turkey. Took me a minute to recognize that these were all the office and nursing staff from the eye Dr that had given me an eye injection the day before. They all had heard from me during numerous visits about what I did and the new building et al. The Dr is a lay preacher at a local church, all his staff are members of his church, he hires them, helps them get into various med schools, and helps them get jobs as their careers progress. He's a good guy and so is his staff. He is very interested in new building as he wants to help church build new fellowship hall and thinks a building like ours might be the most cost effective way to do it. He gave me his personal phone # (how many Drs do that?) so I could send him photos during construction. I stowed the food and asked the ladies if they had five minutes and yes they did so I took them out to the garage and showed them our current shop. One of our guys was just wrapping up so he ran one more part on mill so they could watch. They left with a much better understanding of what was going on.

The second incident was an email Monday morning from a seventh grade girl who attends the local middle school (the same one my son attended 20+ years ago) asking me some science/engineering type questions for a STEM project she is doing. The mail came through the legacy page at the U I worked at. Now you guys all know I'm more than happy to share what I know with folks, and I've worked with students on lots of different projects for years. But one of the things I remember from seminars and in-service training was to be very careful when working with minors. So before responding I contacted the local school corp main office and talked to an official there. I was referred to the principal of the school who put me in touch with the teacher. I talked to her, explained my willingness to help her student, but told her I was uncomfortable directly emailing a minor and that I would only communicate with the student THROUGH the teacher or on school corp grounds in the presence of a school official. Everybody I talked to understood where I was coming from. Ended up knocking off work early today to make a 2 pm visit to local school where I met with the teacher and student. A pleasant visit and useful I think to the student, who seemed like a real nice and bright young lady.

Maybe I'm too cautious, but I thought - what if I decide to run for a city council seat ten years from now, and my opponenet says "well, I discovered that you had an ongoing unmonitored email exchange with a seventh grade girl" - and even if it were completely harmless what could somebody make of it that could harm my family or reputation. So my caution.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Keith, it's a pretty doggone sad statement on our society when you have to take precautions like you did. It's even sadder that you have to do it because there are people out there who would take advantage of a girl like that! Makes me angry and brings back a lot of not so hot memories of dealing with the pervs. OTOH, your Dr sounds like a man to be admired! Good for him, and I hope there are many more like him!

Your shop is gorgeous. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm excited for you. Can't wait to see the finished product. I'm also more than a little jealous! What a great space to work in.

I wish I run my wiring in my barn in conduit. Seems there's always an accident or some seasonal movement that has me chasing down a broken wire. Worse is the odd animal that finds a way to chew on that tasty (?) plastic cover. Rats I can sort of understand, but goats? Must be boredom.

Got the major cleaning and tossing done in the garage. Hope to staple the rest of insulation up. I really need to put in a ceiling but the cost of everything is so high now that it's difficult to justify it. Unfortunately the previous owner of this place used what has got to be the worst soffit I've ever seen and SWMBO's cats like to get into the attic space. Then they walk on the insulation and down it comes. Gotta do something, that's for sure. I have a hot air oil furnace I can use in there in winter. Also have a wood cookstove, but I think that is a space eating poor idea. Needs to be removed. Just getting the place up into the 40's would be fine by me.

Went to TSC and took every one of the LED shop lights they had on sale at $14.99. That's 5 new lights. There are 2 others I was going to put in her rabbit shed, but I may use those myself and get her 3 of the Harbor Freight 4 foot units. Better light covering more area. Yup, I think that's what I'll do.

If you ever get a chance to watch a British Robin Hood movie called "The Sword of Sherwood", you should do so just to see the worst swordplay and action scenes ever shot. The acting and stoyline isn't bad, but the action scenes are really funny. The horsemanship is a hoot too. I love stuff like that, big "Mystery Science Theater 3000" fan.

Winds up to 50 mph here today they say. But it's about 45F. At least the snow is gone!

Sheet metal shop under the stairs? Your Mrs. is a keeper. You should make her a special dinner for that one. Not being sarcastic. Any woman that will let you keep your shear (nice one by the way) and other shop tooling under the stairs is a great gal IME.

I am looking on as Keith's new business site takes shape, and enjoying the progress as it continues. A similar shop/garage building of my own (though smaller and purely recreational & utilitarian rather than commercial) is a big wish of mine, so I am a rapt observer.

Keith--that was a wise and reasonable course of action in arranging that mentorship with the young lady. All at once, it places all involved parties--school, parents, young lady, and the community--on notice that you are concerned for the girl's safety and education and not carrying on an untoward contact with her. Kudoes, sir. Having an adult third party present at all contacts is an added plus. An ounce of prevention vs. a metric ton of cure.
