Those doctors have no sense of humor Ian. When I had my angiogram they told me not to lift anything heavier than ten pounds! I told him I heat with wood. Took him awhile to comprehend that one.

My dad was given the same restriction after back surgery, he joked that my stepmom would have to help him go pee then. Neurosurgeon didn't even pause before dryly saying that he could just send him home with the urinary catheter still installed.

Probably similar to carotid surgery, but they go deeper. Don't toss the pain pills. Keep us posted and plan on lots of TV time.

Small hole this time, but much more sore than I expected. I'm not looking forward to recovering from the big one when they take the whole thing out. How bad was it recovering from your thyroid surgery?

I can only speak for myself Ian, but it was remarkably painless. NO pain meds needed and once the metal staples were removed from my skin instant itch relief. Now days I'm sure most Surgeons use a subcuticular closure.

Lost a kitty today. We never said she was my wife’s cat but Dawn was certainly Maddie’s human.

After 6 months of late night emergency calls due to aging parents health problems my wife and I decided to tell our parents the following.
At 9PM daily we will be turning off all communication devices. We are encouraging family members to constrain health emergencies to daylight hours.
My mom’s response was “good luck with that”.

Sometimes I find laughter far more therapeutic than crying.

I know it does Rick.
In reality my phone sits in the living room at night to charge. It is the damn land line they keep calling.

I feel like it's a victory if medical professionals send me home & haven't killed me. So great job, Ian!

Really sorry about the kitty. Please give Dawn our condolences. We view pets as family & know how tough it can be. You gave her a great life, that's all we can try for.

Today
We did a nasty remediation project. Severely confined space, hot flues/ pipes, tall ceiling, over inch thick fire rated drywall, & super 100 way moldy. Real sore & tired. I love to destroy things I guess.

Damn. Sorry to hear about the kitty, we really get attached to ours and it is rough when they go.

Sorry to hear about the cat .

You guys are making my shoulders hurt just thinking about getting cut on that way .
Here's another for a safe and full recovery .

Splitting wood for my Mom today . Ms got her hand around a shallow limb stub that came out at high velocity , bent her fingers straight up the wrong way . May have torn some tendons across her palm . Unfortunately it's also the hand with the fused wrist . There's equal chances at this point that she has a severe sprain or may lose major function all together of 3 fingers .
It sounds bad but it's not a big deal to her having been hit by a truck , stomped by a cow in milk barn , and run over by a horse carriage . All of which had her full of pins plates and screws . Kind of worried but I guess you work with what you get .

Bruce, I know that X-rated drywall is some serious stuff when dry, must have been a real challenge to deal with when wet. Does your work uniform include a cape? It should.

Seems kinda odd. If they had it open why not do it all at once and be done? Sounds like they plan on doing it twice even though they knew they would be going in and doing over.

RB,
Best wishes to your wife.
I was hit and flipped by a 12 passenger commercial van, in '01, and my head has minimal starboard movement.

Ian,
Continued best wishes.

Missed the part about the cat. Guess I was too busy laughing over the idea of Brad turning off his cell phone.

None of the critters live long enough that's for sure. Hard to believe that the dog I got as a puppy is already well past middle age. In dog years she's already nearly caught up with my age.

Rick, biopsy is first because if it's cancer, metastasizing in my lower neck means it isn't the primary site and they will have to treat me with chemo and radiation and leave the thoracic neck tumor (and all others, wherever they would be) alone. Messing with it would seed the whole site and make it a hundred times worse, especially with recurrences down the road.

Tyvek, & powered full face respirator but no cape. :)

Drywall goes like this-
Really soaking wet=crumbly pain in rear
Wet but not saturated = easiest, breaks, cuts, come off quick
Wet dry wet dry....= hardened tough drywall. When it goes through wet dry cycles it hardens up. Tough to remove
thicker = less fun

The real treat is when we finish. We get to show our clients the same toxic space but in a safe, clean, odor free, & dry state.

I'm still young enough that smashing stuff is fun. Day type labor would make these tight specialty ones a drag. I'm somewhat primal about smashing.

About a week on the labs, have to wait for my ENT to call and tell me or call to schedule appointment to tell me. You can bet which I don't want.

Geeze RB, that sounds terrible about the Mrs. Doesbshe have knots in her forearm? If so you'd better get her to an ER surgeon asap.

No knots .
She had a full spread of pain meds last night and rested pretty well . She had a Naproxen left over from a pulled back muscle , probably a cheat but she had a useful thumb this morning and was able to get movement in all the digits . That makes us both happy . It'll probably be a long haul before she gets back to the 80% she had going in .

Must be somebody looking out for her she picked up 22¢ in the parking lot on the way in and out , all pennies . :)

I spent all night back at my childhood home shooting my Drgoon into the trash berm that was gone before we left and some other weird step kids missed the bus border lining on that weird went to skool half dressed adolescent dream/nightmare stuff . I hate nights like that they last 36 hr if you get 6-7 it feels like it was 5 min .
