she is doing okay.
I could tell she was getting a bit roughed up walking up and down some the ramps and stairs though.
it was her idea to hit a couple of the places after I was done for the day so on we went.
at first I thought that inventory time is coming up and they were kind of dumping off some stock.
but then I looked at a few more things and that clearly isn't the case.
they had many new rifles in stock, even a few Weatherby's [which they haven't had before] were on the shelf
one super overly shiny MK-V was sitting there glowing under the fluorescent lights with an even shinier $2195.00 price tag [it was in 257 W-BY,, which is good because you'd need something flat shooting to get close to anything with 2 eyes carrying that mirror]
my second thought was ever since they quit taking checks their sales of reloading components has dropped off considerably.
but... meh.
Reloader's are smart enough to find a work around for something as minimal as needing an alternate form of payment options, if they need something, they will get it.
now I'm thinking a little bit deeper...
and was kind of looking at the makers themselves, but why would both win and federal both drop their prices suddenly at the same time?
and why the RCBS stuff too?
the primers alone would have lead me to think about Federal wanting to change their shotshell primer recipe here real soon.
and that Win. has run a couple of promotions recently..
but that RCBS thing, plus the bits of odds and ends and low stock on things here and there tell me they are either trying to leverage some cash for some type of purchase,,, or are eliminating stock for some kind of sale.
nothing else in the store would indicate either one though.
so the conclusion?
there is a glut of reloading components on the market, the prices are at an all time high and sales are slow.
they are trying to re-think what they are carrying.
what's real sad is that sportman's warehouse was built from a reloading wholesale business [Pacific Flyway Wholesale in Midvale Utah]
the Retail business's sole purpose was to be a retail outlet for the wholesale side so Brandon could sell and markup and sell again doubling profits on the same product.
the wholesale side [which he bought from Jack Airsman when it was B&A supply [named after Brent Lee and Arisman] and renamed and moved from Bountiful to Midvale]
was originally a supplier to all of the gun clubs in the Utah and South Idaho area.
I know all this because.
I worked for Jack when I was growing up to pay for some of my shotgun shooting.
and I knew Brandon personally through both the business and he was just a couple of years ahead of me in high school we both hung around some with the now current owner of Gallenson's [gun store] Dave Bolton.
Dave went to work for Nate while we were still in HS, Brandon went to work for Jack when we moved from Bountiful to Salt Lake and all I could do was help on weekends.
things seemed to work out okay for both of them I guess.
I still talk to Dave, but haven't heard from Brandon since he sold sportsman's to the first set of buyers.
well that wandered..
