At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Whoa! The wind really kicked up about 7AM and the lake effect came with it! It's miserable out there. Good day to sit inside, 'cuz its nasty outside. Both schools shut down and the roads are a mess. No doubt someone will absolutely HAVE to go to town for something later today, never fails.

What he didn’t mention is that he has his wife out working a job site. She doesn’t work any less than he does.

Gettnin courage for the drive to Fl. to visit SILs. Won't need any words, they will provide. Should be warmer there. Did finally get new D.L. after 2 mo. She was singing Hallelujah Chorus so I knew the mail came through. Glasses not required now. Woohoo.

Hunkering down here also......But the sun came out for part of the day and it is getting pretty strong even though the temps are going down!
Didn't even have to roof rake ...sun took care of that! Now just just trying to deal with the winds Pretty much constant since last night at about 25 mph

She's been bugging me to look into stem cell injections for the knees & back. Hyaluronan acid boosted cells. 2k$ a pop for 6-7 injections that may work. Gotta figure a way to say no to that.

Anyone else tired of cutting firewood? Already used 14 chord this year and just had another 14 chord hauled in. Was -7 last night and about the same forecast for tonight. We had a couple day time temps just over freezing and the wife was getting excited and buying tomato seeds and potting soil. She's got the cabin fever bad this year.

There's a story goes with those AA hulls. The couple had lived up here for 11 years. He was a retired GM employee from southern Indiana. He had a stroke a couple years ago, so couldn't fish much or get around real well, and their cabin was built on a rather steep shoreline. My wife works in four craft shops as part of her rent for her crafts, like 1 or 2 days a month per shop. The wife came into one of the shops while my wife was working and had a list of stuff they wanted to sell. The wife posted it on the bulletin board for the other vendors to see in case they were interested. A week later nobody had made contact with this couple and they had sold their cabin, and scheduled to move by September 1st. They had bought a place in Tn. and needed their stuff in the cabin gone soon. The wife was interested in some cast iron wood stoves they had and I'm the guy with the friends and a trailer!
Besides all the stuff I bought, the wife bought 7 cast iron wood stoves, (one a full size cook stove) numerous porcelain pans, wood boxes, kitchen utensils (old), meat grinders etc. Even with a trailer and PU, it wasn't all coming home in one load, and she bought more stuff each trip back. So every time we went back for something, he managed to find another box of AA hulls somewhere! The original buy was about 3000, part of which had been loaded at least once. The other boxes he found were all once fired, but a couple boxes had some garage dirt included. He wouldn't take any more money for them, and had 7 bags of 8 &9 shot to sell. My grandson bought the 9's and I got the 8's.
The real kicker was the original buyer of their cabin backed out, about two weeks before they were due to be out. They gave him back his down payment money too. My wife called them in October and they had a new buyer by then. Nice folks for sure.
Once fired AA hulls are 7-8 cents here , cheaper later in the summer when they have too many.

The, wait, standby. Okay I'm back. I was going to tell about getting all the maple syrup tapping jugs down outa the shed, washed and readied. Then my wife said, there's a buck, then more deer, then a parade, all down into our little pasture for a drink at the spring, then headed out into the prairie planting. At least 11 and there were antlers visible on at least three. They gotta be gettin' ready to shed soon I'd think.
Spring is right around the corner. I heard a Grey Tufted Titmouse singing a mating song today. I saw the first Trumpeter Swans when I was ice fishing last weekend. We are planning on tapping trees Saturday with a warm spell forecast.

Scott's wife took it upon herself to fix up the bathroom in our new shop. Once all the plumbing worked we put a couple rolls of TP on the back of each commode and a roll of paper towels by each sink and were happy. We're guys, right? But hey, when a woman wants to fix something up I learned to stay out of the way and grunt approvingly at appropriate times.

Our bathroom has a handicapped stall with a toilet and full sink, a stall with a toilet and a urinal, and a shower and sink in the main area. Scott's wife got mirrors, a clock, a linen shelf, all sorts of handy bathroom tools and accessories and artwork. Here are some pics of the artwork, which she had framerd. She used draftsmans tape to hold the prints by the corners just like a machinist would tape up a blueprint.

Just as you walk in there is a print of a 3D printer on the right wall.

The main wall you see as you walk in has three prints.
bath2.jpg

One is a print of a Starrett micrometer.

Another print is a Bridgeport knee mill.

The third print is a Monarch lathe.

The shower curtain has gears and bearings.

This stall has a print of a P-47 ThunderBolt. They were made in Evansville during WWII. I was involved with a (failed) effort to rebuild one for static display some twenty years ago.

I didn't get any pictures of the handicapped stall, I will take some tomorrow and post them. There are two prints in there, one of Captain America's vibranium shield and the other is Iron Man's arc reactor.

I was having trouble with one seam in my drywall job. It is the inside corner of our vestibule wall, it is a 135 degree angle, A 90 degree corner tool won't work and I wanted a radius and not a sharp corner anyway. My wife just got new silverware, so I took one of the old spoons along this morning and tried it and viola! that's the ticket. The back of the spoon made a nice smooth inside radius, I think a little sanding should finish it up.

Scott's wife is a really smart and creative gal. She has several advanced degrees and is a licensed pharmacist in charge of a pharmacy in a national chain store. She has been the main source of their income while Scott worked part time and raised two fine young men. Now the kids are out of the house and she's really supportive of him working with me. We all get along great and while we work hard we have fun, when it stops being fun and interesting the For Sale sign will get planted in the yard.

I made 10.1 flat-rate hours today at work (that equates to about $300 take-home), things are finally starting to move along now I'm getting up to speed on the technology and have been supplied the necessary vehicle interface equipment. Having been virtually isolated from new-car technology for more than a decade has me drinking from the firehose right now, but I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel even if it is a long way off yet. Basic mechanical aptitude, effective time management, and figuring out how to quicky defeat fasteners, clips, and latches in negative space are still at the top of the essential skills list so I have that part quite in hand.

Doctor's office called and left a message three minutes before they closed to tell me they were in the process of receiving faxes of my lab results and my appointment is a go for tomorrow. Yay.

I been in a lot of machine shops. What you've put together there is a professional machinists studio not just a machine shop. Well done, Keith. You're all lucky to have found each other. Team building can be a most difficult task.

Well, we will probably be spending a lot of the rest of our lives there, might as well work in nice surroundings.
