One of my life long best friends is a Kiriluk , pronounced wrong most of his youth appearently , his Mother's side are Jacaboni's which I suspect means something completely different in Italian .

My other life long friend is from Jenson's and Jensen's , Danes and Norwegians which his Dad always said made him a full blooded Swede , funny only because his in-laws were Swedes .

I looked up some of the Welsh stuff a while back. "W" isn't an English W sound and neither is Y or O either IIRC. D and N are I think. Even when you hear the word pronounced the letters don't make any sense!

"Hinterland" is/was a Netflix murder mystery series set in Wales. All the actors are Welsh. Episodes were recorded in English, then in Welsh. Or, the other way round.

Well here is a poignant Photo from Shorpy.com For our world now

Ca. 1918-1919. "Precautions taken in Seattle, Wash., during the Spanish Influenza Epidemic would not permit anyone to ride on the street cars without wearing a mask. 260,000 of these were made by the Seattle Chapter of the Red Cross which consisted of 120 workers, in three days." 5x7 glass negative, American National Red Cross Photograph Collection.

12-ish years ago the Bird Flu was gonna kill us all. I'm one of the group that thinks all this use of antibacterial soaps and gels ends up working against you. I've never had a flu shot, I've never had a serious flu episode. Maybe it's being outside a lot in the fresh air? Not like my wife and kids don't bring home every illness that goes around. Youngest girls gets EVERYTHING, shes the canary in the coal mine around here. Gord gets almost nothing. He's outside all the time, she avoids the outside world unless there's shopping invovled. She uses that anti-bacterial stuff, we have to make him wash the dirt and manure off his hands before eating. Makes sense to me.

Wonder what type and brand of car that is! Must be steam or electric, as no crank and no front brakes.

Well, we have a plan in WA state to bring back the Condors, which have not been seen since Lewis and Clark came down the river in 1805. We are doing this by banning shooting lead bullets because the condors eat carrion. HTH

Ric,
I'm intrigued by the car, too. The swoopy-doopy grill is unique and easy on the eye, and like that old DeSoto, Jim posted earlier, it is pre-clear coat shiny.

I came under scathing fire, on that other site, for mentioning my feelings about "condor cuddlers", so will not say anything, here, other than condors are raised and cuddled in the coastal mountains, not far from me.

Ah, Condor Cuddling. It's all the rage in some quarters, so chic and trendy--fashion-forward to the max. Like, totally.

RiY--that's the same scam the fauna fascists used in CA to enable the lead bullet bans for hunting and lead sinker bans for fishing.

Total BS. Warfarin rodent control (poisoned grain) does more damage to wildlife populations by accident than lead ingestion ever did on purpose. Most fish & wildlife wardens and biologists know this right to the ground, and more than a few wardens won't write tickets for lead bullet hunting for this reason. Meanwhile, county ag reps and state agencies approve Warfarin methods to control vectors. Insanity.

Say, aren't turkey buzzards and condors related, and lead poisons one but not the other?
Local turkey buzzards enjoy feasting on washed up fish, otters and seals, and the occasional whale. Smelly creatures.
