Fiver is only 950 miles from me. It is another 730 miles to Walter.

Damn man, you live on the edge of the earth or something.

Edge of the underworld, for sure. Truck thermometer read 102 this afternoon while I was in an open field sawing up power poles and loading them on my trailer. Damp ground and green grass was boiling water vapor in shimmering waves the whole time under the blistering sun. Went through a gallon of water in three hours and didn't pee until about two hours later. Be good because you don't want to spend eternity here.

I was speaking more of Walter but you are close too.
I am almost as close to Mexico City as I am to Walter. Those big, boxy states west of me are awful big.

Online source says 1794 miles from KC to Springfield, OR
Even cruising 80 mph that is 22 driving hours, or two long days.
Realistically, if you could average 70 you;d be a superstar, and it would take
about 26 driving hours.

Awful big AND criss-crossed with mountain ranges that have only a few passes.

If these earthquakes keep up, Walter WILL be on the edge of the world.

It's really too bad we're all scattered out like we are. Some of you guys would be seriously fascinating neighbors.
Your comment got me thinking. We have a good representation in the Omaha area and within driving distance. Even Bill is a reasonable distance.
Me thinks it would be far easier for Walter to come here. Maybe a spring trip to the forest at Halsey. Not many people there in spring, cattle aren’t on pasture yet, and lots of long distances to be shot. Easy to find a nice sand bank for impact zone.

A friend used to farm 80,000 acres in western KS and eastern CO. I heard that he had a house trailer with his reloading gear, and where he shot. Some friends visited for long range shooting. They asked about safe directions to shoot. He said "Don't shoot the trailer."
They were confused, no berms anywhere and asked for clarification.
He said, "You can't get a bullet off of my land. Don't shoot the trailer. "
But, he sold out years ago.

80’000, that is a chunk for this part of the country.

Guys I hunted with in 90’s, we drove from Cimarron west, opened maybe a dozen gates clear to the Colorado line. I thought that was a big one.
I had a mile range about a 20 minute drive from the house. Lost it 7-8 years ago.

He owned half, leased half. Got pretty well off when he and his father sold out, but to meet him,
you'd just think another good ol' country boy. But smart as hell business man and a hard worker.
Lived out in Russell, drove in for IPSC matches for decades. I haven't seen him in about 8
or maybe 10 years or so. He accidentally got into the trucking business for a while after he
sold out, finally closed that down after a number of years, too. A good man.
